Description
As far as I can tell, this is a copy of the second issue of The Dark Side Of The Moon. One of a relatively small run issued between the first pressings (the ones with the solid blue prism/triangle on the record lable) and the actual second pressings. This is indicated by the runout matrix stamps of SHVL 804 A-3 and SHVL 804 B-2, the product number text on the rear cover being centred (not left aligned as later copies), and the text on the bottom of the inner sleeve. My understanding is that this issue used the original pressings masters but the revised lables with the 'black with blue edge' prism/triangle on the lable for the first time. I certainly bought it immediately it came out, back in March 1973 or whenever it was, but the advance order numbers were so huge not many of us got the genuine first pressing as mentioned above. Not that I was particularly bothered at the time (but I'd love a box of them now!)
This is my own personal copy, bought as new and looked after meticulously ever since. I've always used good quality turntables, even back then, and all my records have been very carefully handled at all times. I've just reached the point though where I really don't use the vinyl these days, and anyway, my musical tastes are not entirely the same as they were fifty years ago - I still like this but I'm much more likely to listen to choral or classical these days.
So, this copy is complete, with both the posters and postcards in pristine condition, the gatefold sleeve has been protected within a thick vinyl cover since day one, and the record itself is unmarked and still with the original black, poly-lined inner sleeve. It has been played, probably not as much as you might think, and certainly not in the last twenty or thirty years. I did give it a play through before listing and it is still pretty much totally quiet in terms of any background noise or hiss, and I didn't notice any clicks or pops. As I would expect - LPs were made of good quality vinyl at that point (what would now be considered premium 180 gm quality) and this one has been well looked after.
Although I'm less likely to listen to Floyd these days, I was a big fan back then, and so of course I had to go and see them at Earl's Court in May '73 when they officially premiered this album following its release. Great show, as far as I remember, and along with the actual LP I'm including here a copy of the A4 sized Concert Program from that event. This is itself quite a rare item, and this copy is in "as new" condition.
All in all, a nice little package for a Pink Floyd fan.
