Description
Let's just get this out of the way first. This is a very beat up record. The vinyl looks like someone's been using it for ice skating practice but bizarrely, it plays with no skips or jumps. It's got surface noise and clicks throughout so PLEASE DON'T BID IF YOU'RE AFTER A MINT COPY. 'Cos this ain't it.
The label is the solid blue triangle version and it's got SHVL 804 A-2 and B-2 stamped in the A- and B-side run out areas, so this could well be a first pressing. It's also got (I think I can make out) an 'R' above an 'A' stamped to the side of the matrix numbers on both sides, with another stamp directly opposite. Could be a '2', but my eyes aren't quite up to it.
As I said, the vinyl has tons of hairlines, scuffs and visible scratches but if you can get past that, it's still quite listenable but with a lot of surface noise and clicking throughout that's a bit more noticeable in the quiet bits. I've done two needle drops that should give you an idea of what it sounds like - a mix of quiet and loud passages that are pretty representative of the whole album. Maybe a bit better in places, maybe a bit worse.
There's no treatment on these, other than short fade in/outs to protect against unintended headphone shock relief.
End of 'Money' into the first couple of minutes of 'Us And Them': http://www.stanleyunwin.com/audio/Money-Us_And_Them.mp3 End of 'Any Colour You Like' to the first part of 'Brain Damage': http://www.stanleyunwin.com/audio/Any_Colour-Brain_Damage.mp3
Now the cover. The pix basically say it all, other than this version has open left and open right...er...openings on the gatefold sleeve, i.e. neither one is sealed. Bottom left on the inside gatefold has got a section in blue, the last line of which reads: 'L 7303 TP Printed and made by Garrod & Lofthouse Ltd SHVL 804'. The back cover top right says SHVL 804, with (IE 064-05249) and stereo centred below it. I think that's all the main identifiers but if you need me to check anything else, drop me a line.
The sleeve, to me, looks like it's got a blue-ish tint but I've not seen any other version in the wild, so I've just put it up against an '80s black sleeve version for comparison (see pic). It's got plenty of scuffs along all the edges and the spine (but no tears) and there's ringwear and storage marks throughout which should be apparent from the pix.
A few other things:
- There's no poster
- There are no stickers
- And there's no original black inner sleeve (although it is now in a new antistatic sleeve)
It'll be sent out securely and by insured mail/courier so we're both protected.
