Description
This is a very early pressing of Piper At The Gates Of Dawn by Pink Floyd. I’m selling on behalf of a friend but I have the record in hand so if you have any questions please ask. I will be as accurate as I can with the description so please read fully rather than just rely on the headings which are subjective
According to Discogs this is a variation of first issue. Features “File Under POPULAR” on back cover, but contains the same record as first pressings without the credit.
Sleeve: Very Good+
I actually think it’s better that this given its age so it’s a conservative grading. The laminated front has no significant damage to speak of aside from one or two minor creases. The unlamintaed flip back rear of the sleeve is also great with no ring wear (on either side). Track A5 is incorrectly printed as ‘POW R. TOC H.’ (there should be no second period apparently). The spine is clean and fully legible.
The only damage of note is:
1) some general light edge and corner wear
2) a 5cm split along the bottom seam from the opening (picture included)
3) a 1cm tear midway up from the bottom from the opening on the back cover (picture included)
Inner: Very Good
The printer paper inner would appear to be the original (according to the Discogs description). It’s in pretty good shape but has a 10cm split along the bottom and two small splits along the sides, and what looks like a small pen mark on one side too.
Record: Excellent
I have test played the record a couple of times so hopefully any significant issues with playback I will have noticed. There were no sticks or skips in play, and I didn’t notice any significant pops which is conducive with the records appearance. The vinyl looks great with just some light surface scuffs and no heavy looking scratches. I haven’t cleaned the record so there are finger prints around the edge but aside from some light crackle in the silent sections of play it really is excellent.
The labels are clean and undamaged with just a few light spindle marks. Really it doesn’t look like it’s had much play in my opinion.
The stamped matrix in each runout are:
Side 1. XAX3419-2 H1
Side 2. XAX3420-1 L1
Honestly if I could have afforded to have it I’d have bought it myself, I think this is an excellent copy and pretty hard to find in this condition
Please don’t hesitate to ask for more info if you need it
