Pink Floyd The Piper at the Gates of Dawn Vinyl LP SCX 6157 Stereo 1967 1st Press VG
Very rare and sought-after first stereo pressing of first Pink Floyd LP 'The Piper at the Gates of Dawn', released on Columbia Records in 1967 (catalogue number SCX 6157).
Identifiers of the original pressing on the disc include the black labels with silver text and blue "Columbia" wording and logo; sans-serif font; "K T" tax code clearly visible on either side of the spindle hole on Side 1; "The Gramophone Co..." text around the rim starting at the 10 o clock position; and track 1/side 2 listing (including credits) all on one line (as per Discogs, "if the artist credits extend to a second line it is the repress"). Stampers are R1/A1 making this version 4 of the first pressing according to the Discogs listing.
The sleeve is by Ernest J. Day & Co. and has the tri-flipback, with the rear in grey and unlaminated. Although the rear top right corner does contain the wording "File Under Popular" (as associated with the second pressing [also 1967]) this is still likely an original match of vinyl and sleeve as the newer sleeve likely came into use whilst copies of the original vinyl pressing were still being used, something underlined by the fact this copy comes supplied with its original (version 1) cream-coloured inner sleeve (advertising Herman's Hermits, The Beatles' 'Revolver' etc).
For such a rare item this one has survived in very good condition.

If you’re still reading… 😊 A bit about Red Brick Retro: my vintage and retro business was born in 2017, when I decided to make the leap from a 15+ year career in charity retail to running my own business. I knew that I wanted to keep my stock offering fairly wide-ranging, but with a focus on the period that most interests and inspires me - c.1960-1990. Music, books and film and are the core of my business, reflecting my interest in these spheres going back to my days as a Media Studies student in the 1990s. I also have a love for fashion, arts and design with a retro/vintage vibe, so pieces of this nature also find space in my shop.
After a first couple of years mainly selling in antiques centres and at fairs in East Anglia/the East Midlands, in 2020 I then expanded my online business. In 2022 I finally realised my dream of opening my own bricks and mortar shop (in the lovely town of Wirksworth in Derbyshire) whilst continuing to bring interesting and rarer items to my online shop here on ebay.
