Description
Title: The Piper at the Gates of Dawn (Columbia Records 1st issue mono). Record Company: Columbia Records. Catalog Number: SX 6157. Release Date: August 5, 1967.
Front Cover: Kaleidoscope picture of the band. The title, "PINK FLOYD" is at bottom centre. EMI logo in upper left corner. Laminated flip back cover. NO "File under POPULAR : Pop Groups."
Back Cover: On early pressings, the top right part of the flip back is blank. Back cover includes title, credits, and song listing. Catalogue number in upper right corner. Un-laminated except for flip backs.
Inner Sleeve: Cream coloured inner sleeve. On the front is an EMI logo at the top centre, with "Add these outstanding LPs to your collection" at the top, 16 LP covers pictured in the middle including Both Sides of Herman's Hermits, and "Remember-the new Emitex cleans and preserves your records," and "Patents applied for" at the bottom. On the back is an EMI logo at the top canter, with " - the greatest recording organization in the world" at the top, 16 LP covers pictured in the middle including the Beatles-Revolver, and "E.M.I. Spine: White with title. THE PINK FLOYD
Labels: Black Columbia labels with silver text, and a blue "Columbia Records Magic Notes Trademark" at the top, and a blue "Columbia" in the center. Underneath the blue "Columbia" it says "Sold in U.K. subject to resale price conditions. See price lists." On most copies, the letters "K" and "T" are stamped on one of the labels (on either on side 1 or 2) on each side of the spindle hole. These are the U.K. tax stamps and indicate that the tax was paid for this album.
Visual grading: outer sleeve graded as very good.
Vinyl: graded as Good/Very good. Side 1 has a visible scratch along most of first track, and surface mark across part of track 5. Otherwise, though obviously well played, only minor marks on surface. Kept clean and free of fingermarks.
Original inner sleeve graded Good.
Original 1st issue outer sleeve Very good.
Play Grading.
Although the scratch and other marks mentioned in visual description do not seem to result in any obvious sound deterioration, make no mistake there is a fairly constant crackle of surface noise throughout play. A ‘deep clean’ might reduce this. It is most noticeable between tracks and in quieter sections of the music. Fortunately it’s a mainly noisy sort of album and can be enjoyed despite this.
There are no skips or points of sticking.
