Description

Pink Floyd
Point Me To The Sky / Arnold Layne
Mega Rare Japan Only 7 inch White Label Promo on Odeon Label
Catalogue Number:  OR-2979
*** Near Mint Condition ***

This white label promo record is a beautiful example of the black vinyl version of the Japanese only coupling of the Pink Floyd tracks 'Point Me To The Sky' and 'Arnold Layne'.

It has a unique wrap around group picture insert, which has a Japanese biography and lyrics in Japanese and English printed inside.

The record is housed in the original 'Toshiba Records' company record sleeve.

The record itself has the the matrix number of 7XCA-3288 1S on the 'Point Me To The Sky' side, and SRS-5071A-1-S 1S on the 'Arnold Layne' side.

As for the condition, I am happy to describe it as 'Near Mint' throughout, with only the slightest indications that it is now 40 years old.  The 'Toshiba' sleeve has slight yellowing to the top edges, whilst the entire sleeve remains crisp with perfect edges, and it still also has the original plastic inner sleeve common to Japanese releases.  The insert is in equally good condition, with good clean crisp edges, and nothing other than light ringwear to only the reverse of the insert.  The record has never been played by myself, and that is for a good reason - to my eye the record looked unplayed when I acquired it, and I wished to leave it in that condition.  The labels are clean with no writing or markings, although they do have just the slightest amount of background markings which look as though they may have happened during the printing process (see around the 'Odeon' logo in the pictures).

If you were to try to visually fault the record, the only thing you could pick fault on is just a couple of the very lightest (and smallest) of hairline scratches on the 'Point Me To The Sky' side which look as though they may have happened when the record had been placed into the sleeve sometime over the past 40 years, and just a tiny amount of marking (possibly occured during pressing) on the very edge of the record on the 'Arnold Layne' side (which does not extend anywhere near as far as the playing surface).  To be honest, both of these 'faults' are incredibly minor, and are only visible under close scrutiny (for example, the 'marking' on the 'Arnold Layne' side is at the 6 o'clock to 8 o'clock area at the edge of the record when holding the label upright, but it is totally invisible in the pictures for this auction).  However, these are the only things that stop me from being able to grade this record a NM+ instead of NM, and I believe that you may not find a better copy of this particular white label record for a long time to come.

It has been kept in a professional record box since the day I acquired the record, and it is currently from a non-smoking and pet-free household (with every indication being that the previous owner had the same type of household arrangements).

I currently have several other rare and sought after 7" records listed on eBay.
