Description
Up for auction is a fantastic UK original 1st pressing of Pink Floyd's Saucerful of Secrets LP on the original 1st press black and blue Columbia labels. This is the Stereo version of this LP which was also available in Mono. The catalogue number is SCX 6258.
The vinyl is in fantastic condition aside from two flaws, one on each side. On side one, the second track "Remember a Day" has a 1/2 cm scratch that causes some light clicking. There is no big pops or skips but the noise is heard. One side two, the second track "See Saw" has two 1/2 cm scratches that cause some minor clicking. Again, it is not overwhelming nor does it distract overly from the music but they can be heard. The remaining LP looks almost new with only very minor surface noise and a couple of non-sounding surface marks. I would love to rate this VG++ but must reduce it to VG+ because of the blemishes mentioned above. The LP was obviously well cared for with perhaps one mishap that caused the blemishes.
The flip-back front laminated Garrod and Lofthouse printed sleeve is in superb VG++ condition with full gloss on the front, and very minor wrinkling to the laminiate at the back flipbacks. The black unlaminated back doesn't even have ring wear so common on this LP cover. There is very minor wear on the top and botton left corners. The spine is in wonderful condition and fully legible. The EMI advertising inner sleeve is in VG+ condition with no side splits but a 1 cm split on the bottom. It is very clean and looks only lightly handled.
This is a wonderful copy. It is also a VERY early first pressing with very early matrix information indicating it was one of the first off the presses. See the matrix information below.

Matrix Information:
A note about UK EMI records matrix information. EMI pressings in the 60s and 70s had the mother, and stamper numbers added to the deadwax, not just the lacquer number. The mother was assigned a number at the 9 o'clock position, the catalogue number with the lacquer number was at the 6 o'clock position and the actual stamper number was pressed at the 3 o'clock position based on "Gramophone Ltd." as the lettering convention as below:

Side 1: 1 (at the 9 o'clock position) YAX 3633-1 (at the 6 o'clock position the 1 denoting a first lacquer cut) and G (or 1 at the 3 o'clock position therefore meaning this side is pressed from the first stamper from the 1st mother from the first lacquer).
Side 2: 1 - YAX 3634-1 - A (meaning side 2 was pressed from the 3rd stamper made from the 1st mother from the 1st lacquer. In other words, this was one of the 1st copies of this LP off the presses. Not only is it a genuine first pressing, but a very early first pressing.)
