The condition is excellent for its age with almost no visual flaws and no discernible defects in the audio performance.
This much loved album was purchased in Brown's Record Shop in Reading near to the date of release in 1967. It followed its student owners to Durham and Newcastle and then its lecturer owner (in Cultural Theory owner and author of 2 books on contemporary culture) to Teesside, Cambridge, Newcastle upon Tyne, Northallerton and Thirsk in North Yorkshire. The co-owner worked for the BBC TV and Radio. The requirements of age oblige downsizing so this, and other early Floyd albums, is required.
Floyd fans will not need a description of the tracks nor a biography of the band but may need to be reminded of the historical and cultural significance of this classic album. It was the first of a series of great Floyd albums. It was undoubtedly, the best. It has Syd Barrett's genius signatures all over it. But it changed youth culture - it invoked a new psyche, new lifestyles and ways of living. It altered its owners and their friends for ever.
The owners were Soho Mods at the time listening to Sue, Stax, R & B, Soul, Georgie Fame, Jimmy Smith etc. One night at the Flamingo Club in Wardour Street in 1965 two girls told us of a gig at the University by a new band. We went into a cavernous dark hall near Tottenham Court Road with oil lamp shows projected in the walls. It was called 'Middle Earth'. The girls wore long loose clothes, the boys had abandoned Mod Italian clothes for loose fitting ones. The band played long, experimental stuff with no genre or format rules to date. It was surreal and scary. Only the Velvet Underground were brought to mind. The gig burnt a whole in my brain as it did Syd's later. This record was played in endless homes for endless hours and accompanied many to new interior spaces. Listening to this again now sends a shiver up the spine. This album is pure gold.
The cover is in excellent condition with little scuffing or signs of wear. The colour are still vibrant. There is a small crease on the right where the cover had been opened over the years. Discs have always been played on hi fi equipment with weighted arms and diamond stylus. The owner has bought professional packing materials and will dispatch with great care on receipt of the income. We really want this to go to a music lover where it will be treasured and played often. Its the genuine article, priced just below others like it on offer.
