Further Notes: Pink Floyd’s first record up for auction – The Piper At The Gates Of Dawn – reissued in very limited form in 1997 on LP and CD. The LP being the rarer of the two. Why is it rare? It’s the only mono reissue of this monumental LP in it’s original MONO mix. There is no other issue besides the original, and incredibly expensive original mono UK copy. This was issued at the point in history before the LP renaissance and at a time when there were limited pressings of vinyl because the market had shrinked considerably at that time. (go look for original Radiohead LP’s issued at this time from the UK – OK Computer or The Bends for eg – not easy to find as nobody was purchasing them and EMI had dumped the Hayes Middlesex pressing plant, or was about to.) The record is in NM condition and as I was the owner I can tell you it was played on nothing less than a Shure V15 Type VxMR during it’s lifetime and probably no more than 10 times. The artwork is in EX condition because the Virgin Megastore in Vancouver where this was purchased didn’t have proper racks and the LP’s were so few in number that they ended up on racks being looked at by customers and placed back – it’s as good as you could get at that time when the number of copies coming into a store were as low as 5 at a time…it really was a dark age for vinyl… The mono mix is the superior mix of this record and has many differences in volume relationship between instruments, and effects…it is one of the rare times I have thought I was listening to a different record while it was playing! Amazing!
All records are cleaned on a VPI 16.5 and are ready to play – records are never playgraded until they are cleaned properly – that way an accurate grading can occur. All records are placed in new Nitty Gritty sleeves and if there is an original sleeve present it is contained in the package for completeness.
I am a record collector with many doubles of LP’s (the nature of collecting!) and shrinking shelf space. I have made it my aim to rid myself of doubles and triples of records that I have picked up over the years and my loss is someone’s gain (hopefully!) Good luck with your bidding!
