Description
For sale is a very rare true first U.K. mono press of Pink Floyd’s debut album The Piper at the Gates of Dawn
Original first issue sleeve, without ‘ File under Popular’ text on top right of rear of sleeve. This is in VG condition with a split to top edge only real issue.
Original authentic inner sleeve is in excellent condition
Record pressed with very early 1M and 1A stampers.
Record sits fully flat on turntable.
Labels in VG+ condition with a few spindle marks but no writing or tears.
Visually both playing sides are a strong VG+, with only a few wispy lines under strong light.
Sonically side 1 is VG, with some surface noise at the opening few revolutions of track one and crackles noticeable in quiet passages and between tracks. A deep professional clean might remove some of the crackles No sticks skips or jumps. Notwithstanding the crackles, a strong and enjoyable mono listening experience
Side 2 is sonically similar to side 1, with some discernible crackles in quiet passages and some ticks on track 4 and start of track 5. Again with no sticks, skips or jumps.
So we have a very decent original copy of an iconic record - the first mono version which is deemed by most experts to be by far the best and most desirable. It might not be an audiophile archive quality copy but it is a great listen and very scarce.
