You are bidding on an ultra-rare, 7" EP from Poison idea, whose legendary guitarist, Tom "Pig Champion" Roberts, has recently died (January 30 in Portland, Oregon). In 2003, this record sold on Ebay for $125. You will not likely have an opportunity to find a record like this again. The material has been reissued on CD... but we all know that a first pressing record is the thing to have...

AllMusic.com writes: Poison Idea's notoriously brief, punishing debut was released in 1983, a few years after the band formed in Portland, Oregon. Thirteen songs in sixteen minutes. Obviously, not a second wasted. At this juncture, the band consisted of founder and enormous frontman Jerry A., guitarist Tom Roberts – later to be rechristened Pig Champion, due to his porcine build, bassist Chris Tense, and drummer Dean Johnson. Already, Jerry A. sang like a man in the middle of a heartattack, bellowing furiously, frighteningly. In other words, the template was being created for albums to follow. With Pick Your King – a reference to Elvis and Jesus, Poison Idea helped establish the paradigm for aggressive American hardcore punk.

Trouser Press writes: Pick Your King, wrapped in an appropriately sacrilegious sleeve, positioned the foursome as true keepers of the faith, what with guitarist Tom Roberts' Angeleno-styled ampheta-strum attack (especially reckless on "Cult Band" and "Castration") and the blink-and-you-missed-it jimmying of thirteen songs into just over fifteen minutes. If there's anything they don't hate, you wouldn't know it from listening to this.

First pressing on clear vinyl, closed cover, Fatal Erection Records, 1000 made.

For whatever it's worth — 2nd pressing on black vinyl, blue sleeve, 700 made; 3rd pressing on blue vinyl (circa 1985), xeroxed cover sheet, 1000 made. Bootleg on black vinyl, 500 (?) made. 4th legal pressing on American Leather on black vinyl, 1000 made.
