Collected in a limited edition double LP set, first half of the edition issued in transparent red vinyl and the rest on black vinyl.
Housed in a silver sleeve with the Klaus Kinski / Isabelle Adjani artwork from the movie poster as used for the 1979 PDU Italian issue. The gatefold cover artwork is completed with graphic material from 'On The Way To A Little Way' plus photos from the movie provided by Werner Herzog himself.
A 50 x 70 cm full colour reproduction of the movie poster is included, as is an insert with liner notes and one bonus track not on the original albums.

Florian Fricke's soundtracks always added a distinctive dimension to the films of Werner Herzog and that's especially true of his recordings for Nosferatu: Phantom der Nacht (starring Klaus Kinski as the most spectacularly grotesque Count Dracula ever). This CD brings together Brüder des Schattens, Söhne des Lichts and Nosferatu: Fantôme de la Nuit, two 1978 Popol Vuh albums containing material for Herzog's film. The director drew initially on the first of these records but subsequently asked Fricke for more music conveying fear and dread. In response, Fricke raided his archive of unused work -- this was the origin of the second record. Featured prominently in the film, "Brüder des Schattens, Söhne des Lichts" moves from a spectral choral beginning to a lighter, almost pastoral conclusion with piano, guitar, and sitar, echoing the chiaroscuro dynamic of its title ("Brothers of Shadow, Sons of Light"). That brighter, expansive mood recurs on several tracks with a more pronounced Eastern groove: "Through Pain to Heaven," for example, with its mesmerizing interplay of guitars and droning, billowing sitar. Darker numbers like "Mantra 2" -- which combines choral voices and organic drones in a mournful, subtly menacing fashion -- resonate more explicitly with the film's gothic aesthetic.

Among the dark tracks, the most striking pay homage to early electronic soundtrack experiments: for example, "Die Nacht der Himmel" with its spooky theremin sound and the supremely eerie "Der Ruf der Rohrflöte." To call this a soundtrack CD is slightly misleading: not all the music features in the movie and it omits non-Popol Vuh material heard in the film (portions of Wagner's "Das Rheingold" and Gounod's "Messe Solennelle de Sainte Cècile," for instance). That said, it holds together as a coherent album in its own right and includes some exceptionally strong, memorable material.

At Netdiscs we ensure you get the postage and packing service you require - we can send by 1st, 2nd or Recorded delivery within the UK and Air or Airsure to any overseas destination.  We no longer use surface mail due to the length of delivery time and any overseas items over £20 will now have to be sent by Airsure.

We hate being overcharged for postage, it’s money for nothing. So we aim to keep our postage costs fair and transparent. Obviously each item is different, but we’ve done a fair bit of work to establish the correct postage price before posting.  If you feel hard done by, please get in contact.

PACKAGING

We’re record lovers too and hate receiving items marked as ‘Mint’ and turns out to be scuffed or ripped. This can be avoided!

We use top quality packaging materials - so all our items arrive with you, the buyer, in top notch condition.

Please note: all records are removed from their sealed packaging UNLESS REQUESTED OTHERWISE. Once removed from their packaging, they are kept in a 250g polysleeve which ensures protection. The record(s) and its sleeves are then placed between 2 stiffeners. This ensures that everything arrives exactly as you’d want it to.

Remember - we all need to recycle where possible, so with larger orders and larger items, we re-use the packing boxes and protective wrapping received from our suppliers.

Grading based on Record Collector Guidelines:

Mint   The record itself is in brand new condition with no surface marks or deterioration in sound quality. The cover and any extra items such as the lyric sheet, booklet or poster are in perfect condition. Records advertised as sealed or unplayed should be Mint.

Excellent   The record shows some signs of having been played, but there is very little lessening in sound quality. The cover and packaging might have slight wear and/or creasing.

Very Good   The record has obviously been played many times, but displays no major deterioration in sound quality, despite noticeable surface marks and the occasional light scratch. Normal wear and tear on the cover or extra items, without any major defects, is acceptable.

Good   The record has been played so much that the sound quality has noticeably deteriorated, perhaps with some distortion and mild scratches. The cover and contents suffer from folding, scuffing of edges, spine splits, discolouration etc.

Fair   The record is still just playable but has not been cared for properly and displays considerable surface noise, it may even jump. The cover and contents will be torn, stained and/or defaced.

Poor   The record will not play properly due to scratches, bad surface noise, etc. The cover and contents will be badly damaged or partly missing.

Bad   The record is unplayable or might even be broken, and is only of use as a collection-filler.
