This a test pressing of "Popsicles And Icicles" by the Murmaids. It's 45rpm. It has a white label which reads "alco Research and Engineering , Inc. 6201 Santa Monica Blvd. Los Angeles Calif.90038 213- 466 1101 TEST PRESSING MA# RECORD# 2009 TIME LABEL TITLE " Someone has written in pencil "9/23 CH 628". The condition is beautiful! The record sounds exactly like the record we all know. The A-side is "Popsicles And Icicles" and the B-side (which has NO WRITING on it) is "Blue Dress". "Popsicles And Icicles" was written by David Gates who also wrote "My One And Only Jimmy Boy" by The Girlfriends. David Gates also was the genius behind Bread, the group who did "Baby , I'm-A-Want You" , Guitar Man" , and many more hits. The Murmaids record was produced by Kim Fowley. Kim Fowley is the genius who produced The Runaways , "Alley Oop" by The Hollywood Argyles , "Nut Rocker" by B. Bumble & The Stingers. He also produced The Modern Lovers. Kim Fowley is without a doubt one of the most talented figures to ever emerge from the L.A. music scene. If Kim Fowley had only produced "Popsicles And Icicles" that would have been enough but he actually did much , much more great stuff. David Bowie refers to Fowley's great talent in the film "Mayor Of The Sunset Strip". "Popsicles And Icicles" was on the CHATAHOOCHIE label and was also released with other B-sides.... "Hunnington Flats" , "Bunny Stomp" and "Comedy Tragedy". "Popsicles And Icicles" was released in 1963 and was a hit in 1963 and 1964. This was the golden age of the girl groups,,,The Shangri-Las , The Dixie Cups , The Jellybeans, The Shirelles , The Ronettes , The Crystals , The Supremes , The Marvelettes , The Caravelles , The Cinderellas , The Cookies , The Chantels etc.. This test-pressing is an amazing girl-group rarity.
