Description

This is a really cool record by the experimental Portsmouth Sinfonia, a classical ensemble consisting of professional musicians rubbing elbows with absolute amateurs. The sonic result is ultimately comparable to a middle school band performance, big on dissonance, and of course, comical. But it's not "supposed" to sound bad. The album operates off the principle of an earnest performance, and that's really what makes it so compelling. Produced by the ever clever Brian Eno, the record relegates the elitist arena of classical music to the level of the common man. You'll recognize every tune.
I was perfectly pleased to find this record, but I no longer spend too much time listening to music in the vinyl format. I'd like to sell it to someone who will appreciate it and play it. The record has been recently cleaned, and there are no skips in the songs.
You'll notice a fair bit of wear and some markings on the sleeve—the record has probably passed through a few hands since 1974. Curiously, the back cover has been stamped in gold with a little disclaimer stating "Demonstration: Not For Sale". Perhaps this record was to be used for promotional purposes? Oh well.
For all its quirkiness, this unique LP could be a cool jewel in your collection!
Thank you.
