 This auction is for the hard to find first pressing of the album S.F. Sorrow by The Pretty Things (Rare Earth RS 506).  This is NOT a reissue or cut out or any sort.  It is the original 1969 pressing and you would be hard pressed to ever find a copy of this 39 year old gem in a condition such as this.  This LP was barely ever played or handled and any minor flaws it has are strictly from age and the elements of time and storage, not overuse or mishandling.

This album is considered a lost classic of psychedelic music. The songs were recorded over several months during 1967 at EMI's famous Abbey Road Studios in London, during the same period when The Beatles and Pink Floyd were recording Sgt Pepper's Lonely Hearts Club Band and The Piper at the Gates of Dawn respectively.

The Cover:

This is the original "dome" or "tombstone" shaped LP cover, exclusive to this 1st pressing.  The album jacket is in excellent- condition, only showing a few early signs of aging.  The all white section on the back shows only the slightest signs of discoloration on one edge, and the front (being grey), shows even less aging.  There is one very minor corner crease in the lower left.  The outer edges of the album are not quite as smooth as they used to be, but all in all the outside of the jacket looks very sharp.  The inner gatefold displays all of the lyrics and credits and looks nearly brand new and shows barely any aging whatsoever.  The record company chose not to cut a similarly shaped sleeve for the vinyl, instead the cover itself is poly lined to prevent the record from scratching.  As you will see, this wound up being a great idea, as the vinyl isn't affected by sleeve scuffs nearly as much as a paper sleeve would have treated it.

The Vinyl:

The record itself is a very clean specimen indeed!  The poly liner has caused minimal sleeve scuffing.  There are only a few minor "hairlines", which don't affect playback in any way.  I tested this record out on my admittedly lower end equipment and found nothing to gripe about.  It appears as if this record was barely played at all, as there are absolutely no signs of groove wear or spindle wear.  The labels are as shiny and new as the day they left the press.

The record is pressed on a beautiful, thick, inflexible vinyl, which was usually used for the first or very early pressings. Usually, the sound on such thick vinyl pressings is full-bodied, vivid, and even dramatic. Do not expect to obtain such a majestic analog sound from a digital recording!  This is the original stereo pressing, as mono copies of this LP are not known to exist in the U.S.

If you already own this LP, this copy would most likely be an upgrade, especially when speaking about the vinyl itself.  The cover leaves little to be desired as well, only having naturally aged over time.  The owner of the collection (upwards of 8,000 records) this LP is selected from rarely played any particular record more than once or twice.  He was more interested in the collecting aspect of records, so they were nearly all put away in boxes shortly after purchase and a few sample listenings.  This LP is no exception, and you will most likely be playing it for the 3rd or 4th time EVER, in its 39 years of existence.  If you don't already own this album, this copy would be the perfect place to get your hands on a VERY nice copy of it.  It's definitely nice enough where you would never need to find something better.  As long as you can deal with very subtle, minor aging on the cover, you simply can't go wrong here!
