ITEM DESCRIPTION:
This gorgeous, and somewhat uncommon, LP from Capitol (P8478, US pressing, rainbow FDS label, mono) features legendary violist William Primrose in peerless readings of the late Brahms Viola Sonatas Nos. 1 in F minor and 2 in E flat Major Op. 120, both performed with that superb pianist, Rudolf Firkusny. The recordings are perfectly balanced, the viola not overly spotlit, the two musicians in equally inspired and mellifluous accord – really beautiufly performances, unsurpassed on record – only Primrose's earlier account of the F minor Sonata for RCA Victor – made with pianist William Kapell – offers serious challenge, and this later Capitol edition boasts finer sound. A treasure.

CONDITION:
The gradations of condition I use are as follows: MINT, Near-Mint, Excellent, Very Good, Good, Fair, Poor.
The condition of the jacket is EXCELLENT. There is a minor chip to the front panel, slight bumping at corners, and a few stray pen marks to the rear panel. In addition, the glossy front paper is detaching very slightly at the top. There are no seamsplits, bends, owners' markings, or other defects and the album remains solid, bright, glossy, and highly attractive – overall, a lovely collector's copy.
The condition of the LP itself is EXCELLENT. While there are a few slightly noisy passages, in general the playback is quite fine. Only in the slow movement, does the grading fall slightly to VG. However, those requiring a flawless or near-MINT copy are kindly advised to look elsewhere. Overall, this rates as an excellent collector's copy.
