This beautiful LP from Bartók Records (BR 309, US pressing, plum/silver label, mono – no stereo edition exists, laminated jacket) features legendary violist William Primrose in Béla Bartók's Viola Concerto op. posth. (Sz. 120). Primrose is here accompanied by the man who prepared this work for publication, Bartók's long-time friend and musical executor Tibor Serly and the New Symphony Orchestra of London. Their account was recorded in the early 1950s.
Genesis of the composer's son Peter Bartók, his eponymous label here preserves as authoritative account of this masterpiece as one is likely to find.
There are authoritative and eloquent liner notes on the reverse side of the jacket by Edward Jablonski, printed in English only. The striking cover design is uncredited.
CONDITION:
The gradations of condition I use are as follows: MINT, Near-Mint, Excellent, Very Good, Good, Fair, Poor.
The condition of the laminated jacket is near-MINT. Really, there are no flaws to speak of and the album appears as new – a truly lovely copy.
The condition of the LP itself is near-MINT. Although surfaces are not absolutely silent (and thus I have rated it NM vs. MINT) this is a fine copy and playback is superb. If you must have perfect surfaces, then please do not buy this LP. Overall, this rates as a NM collector's copy.

This LP has been carefully cleaned using a VPI cleaning machine. All LPs are provided with a new Nagaoka (or Nagaoka-style) inner sleeve.
