Prince DMSR - Dance Music Sex Romance - UK 12" Promo Sam 172
Vinyl Condition VG++ Sleeve Condition VG+ no seam splits or tears, Some ring wear as shown in photos.
So the story goes....
In 1983 Warner Bros were ready to launch their latest prodigy in the UK. Prince had proved to be an underground success, and '1999' the single had received enthusiatic reviews, with the full backing of the inkies (including NME!). But were the British public ready for the album?
Originally '1999' was a double album, but WB were concerned, so they reduced it to a single album and issued it in 1983. But some of the A&R team felt that the best track had been excluded, and so this promo copy was prepared....
'Dance Music Sex Romance' encapsulated what Prince was telling us. The promo (SAM172) was pressed in small quantities and distributed only to DJs, radio stations and record shops to heighten interest. It did its job - interest in Prince grew, WB felt the need to issue the full double album, and the DMSR promo became one of the most sought after Prince collectibles.
Most copies are tucked away in collections (for a very good reason) with very few making it to the marketplace, your chance to own a piece of musical history.

As of today there are only 60-70 known copies of this single in various conditions in existence, making this a very sought after official WB Prince collectable.

The vinyl has some light marks which I have tried to show in the photos, overall I would grade it as VG++ with just v.occasional noise on playback, otherwise this plays amazingly well. The B side is cut very slightly off centre which thankfully doesn’t affect playback but is worth mentioning for an item of this rarity. The photos show some wear to the very outer-edge of the vinyl, thankfully this DOES NOT affect the beginning of the track in any way. Overall it still retains a glossy sheen, the vinyl and the labels are bright and clean.
