Description
The original Jamaican pressing of Prince Far I's legendary LP Under Heavy Manners, released in 1976 (the title reflecting Jamaica's then-current State of Emergency).
Of interest to collectors of mid Seventies DJ and dub reggae. Also punk fans: this was among the albums that inspired the lyrical content and subsequently the music of the early Clash (Joe Strummer used to have Under Heavy Manners stencilled on his boiler suit) in late '76, and was among the LPs that DJ Don Letts used to spin at the Roxy club in Covent Garden in early '77.

All but one track credited to Joe Gibbs. Produced by Joe Gibbs at Joe Gibbs' recording studio, 24 Retirement Crescent, Kingston, and issued by Joe Gibbs on Joe Gibbs Record Globe label, 20 North Parade, Kingston. See, it was Joe Gibbs' world, and Far I just toasted in it.
Like all the best Jamaican reggae albums, the cover is appalling. Probably designed by Joe Gibbs. Features out of focus, over exposed pic of Far I in jumble sale chic, flared catalogue jeans shredded below the knee, cartoon cat motif sheet draped over his head, face obscured by sunglasses and obligatory ganja cloud. Condition pretty good.
Like all Jamaican pressings of the time, the quality of the vinyl also leaves a lot to be desired. It has potholes. And it's got a little marked over the years. Mint, it ain't. And probably never was, even on the day it left the press. Some surface noise, but plays with no jumps or clicks. Cavernous sound.
Remember: 'Rain a fall, but dub she tuff.' Which roughly translates as, what's a little white noise in the quiet passages when the bass kicks in like this?
