redgarnett Store ITEM DESCRIPTION:
This remarkable and rare LP from Polydor · Vox (PLP 6510, US pressing, black/silver label, mono – no stereo edition exists) features the Pro Musica Chamber Group in a magnificent rendition of Mendelssohn’s Octet in E-flat Major Op. 20, recorded at the Salle Chopin, Paris, on 11 June 1948.
The Pro Musica Chamber Group boasted a stunning line-up of soloists:
Henri Merckel, violin
Georges Ales, violin
Henri Volant, violin
Louis Galli, violin
Pierre Ladhuie, viola
Roger Lepauw, viola
André Navarra, cello
Marcel Frecheville, cello
This is wonderfuly playing, from a bygone age, and comes up very well in this early Vox pressing, first issued on LP in 1950.
Incidentally, there are splendid liner notes on the reverse side of the jacket by Edward Tatnall Canby, printed in Engish only. The cover design is uncredited.
CONDITION:
The gradations of condition I use are as follows: MINT, Near-Mint, Excellent, Very Good, Good, Fair, Poor.
The condition of the jacket is VERY GOOD. There is discoloration and wear along the top edge, as well as slight bumping at corners, but really that is all. However, there are no seamsplits, owners' markings, bends, or other defects, and the whole remains solid, bright, and highly attractive in appearance – overall, a very good collector's copy.
The condition of the LP itself is EXCELLENT. While there are a few slightly noisy passages, in general the playback is quite fine. However, those requiring a flawless or near-MINT copy are kindly advised to look elsewhere. Overall, this rates as an excellent collector's copy.
