Description
On offer here Superb original RCA Living Stereo disk of 1959. RCA early cultivated Jean Martinon as a vital conductor of core European modernist symphonic works. RCA engineers lavished their precocious talents on capturing most vividly the Paris Conservatoire Orchestra, an extraordinary ensemble at this date that Martinon did much to build up and refine. Here the Orchestra's great tone across all sections is captured in lucid, richly enveloping early RCA Stereo sonics. Martinon revels in Prokofiev's biting, sardonic, lyrical, brassy, and percussive symphonic expressions. Even better, Disk here is First Edition and First Pressings. Disk deadwax mechanically stamped 1S (Side 1) and 1S (Side 2) indicating First Pressings from the original masters. Visual inspection shows disk retaining a high-gloss vinyl sheen on both sides. Under bright light, Side 1 appears flawless. Side 2 shows a single, thin hairline on a portion of Track 2 that is largely inaudible and produces only a few intermittent ticks that in no way detract from the overall power and impact of the music. (More Play grading of all tracks happily provided upon request.) Jacket is Near-Mint as well still showing high-gloss sheen on both faces, all seams tight and intact. Not a Cut-Out. Inner, original plastic-lined, RCA paper sleeve still crisp and white. Overall, a superlative copy catching a great conductor and a great orchestra vividly pouring forth a modern Russian symphony with awesome sound.
