ALBUM: 1(A) WAZOO (Zig Zag ZZ 217) 1970 R1
45: 1 Hey Girl I'm In Love With You/Don't Give Your Love To Anyone (R&R R 103) 1969
From Cleveland, Ohio. Their 45 was issued on a New York City label and comprises of late sixties soft pop-rock - not 'garage' as sometimes claimed. It sounds not dissimilar to later (Young) Rascals material - pleasant but very average.
The obscure Wazoo LP on an equally obscure Michigan label is strange indeed - the personnel as listed above is sketchy due to the lack of info on the gatefold sleeve, with its welter of named and unnamed photos, but Robert DiPasquale had previously been in Bocky and The Visions. Musically the album contains an odd mix of brassy jazz-rock with The Fugs and lots of weird s**t thrown in: anti-war and anti-establishment jibes, some nice baroque touches, a soupcon of avant-garde, some heady lyrics, and barrages of war and off-the-wall sound effects... all of which make for a challenging listen. Noteworthy moments include: the eleven minute jazz-psych trip of The Way I See It; the bluesy fuzz of Sleep On; the amazing bad-trip noise of Arnie Funny Far Fackor which should only be listened to in a padded room; and the excellent heavy fuzz-and-feedback blast of BH Man that closes the album in a more accessible acid-rock vein.
George Katsakis recalls:- "I was also the leader of a group formed in 1958 called the Royaltones. I used the name Konstantine because it was my father's name. The Wazoo album was recorded in Novi, Michigan at a studio that was owned by Bob Adell. The studio was located in a building that is now known as the Novi Expo Center and Arnie of Arniefunnyfarfacker was the recording engineer".

Here's a guideline for how I grade records. Not all records will fit "exactly" into a certain grade, and one should assume a certain amount of tolerances within each grade. I could go on here, but will just say that I try not to sell records that I think will be a disappointment.
All records are graded "vinyl / jacket".
Assume grading to be "visual" unless noted.
Grades for vinyl :
M : new, un-played, perfect.
M-/NM : like new but carefully played a limited amount of times. Should play perfect with almost no noise or imperfections. May show very faint imperfections from paper scuffs or tiny needle marks.
EX : as above with a few light needle marks, or a few light surface scratches, and/or inaudible or barely audible scuffs. a very nice used record
VG+ : no groove wear, but some visible scuffs and surface scratches. Should still play with nice fidelity, but will have an occasional pop, tick, and light surface noise, surface noise between tracks. A normal used record.
VG : still showing good gloss but lots of small scratches and scuffs. A slightly abused record that should still play through without skips, but will have light surface noise throughout, pops, ticks, and maybe some light distortion around the edges. I do not consider VG to be a junk grade
VG- to G : any record in less than VG condition that I feel is still worth offering
Grades for jackets:
M : perfect. no wear, square flat corners, solid seams, spine etc.
M-/NM : overall appearance of front and back near perfect but may have a very small problem or faint age wear that I will explain.
EX : as above, nice "un-handled" feel, but may have a small split, a bent corner or two, very light ring wear, small writing. Or a M- jacket with a drill hole, saw-cut, or promo stamp.
VG+ : still have a nice overall appearance, but may have the following defects: seam splits, spine splits, small tears, ring wear, writing, small stains, etc. in various (not severe) degrees.
VG : defects as above in a greater degree, and possibly a "handled", or "worn" feel to the paper. possible neat tape repairs. will still look good when in a poly-bag.
G or G+ : getting ugly, but for some reason still worth offering.
