The Way Out Record For Children - Created by Bruce Haack
Original 1960s tripped out bizarre children's record featuring Haack's homemade synthesizers that play robot music, drug-laden eastern Indian citar with fast drum machines and a child telling a story that sounds like a bad trip and many other hilarious scenarios. The best part is Miss Nelson and Bruce's normal "school documentary" styled talk that delivers the bizarre stories and off key singing among the very cool electronic music and sound effects. Haack, like other early electronic music pioneers like Kraftwerk and Silver Apples, introduced his bizarre sounds made from homemade and modified synthesizers on some television appearances, most notably Mister Rogers (an episode that is worth watching and can be found searching the internet), and it was the appearance on Mister Rogers that lead to the release of a few children's records. It's now a great underground cult masterpiece and hard to find.
The vinyl is VG- due to the poor pressing of it. There are no scratch marks but a dulling haze on both sides causes a prominent long swish sound throughout each side from beginning to end. The "A" side label is white and of poor quality while the "B" side label is a flat blue with silver ink, both of which have some wear or light wear spots. This was a library copy (even funnier), so the cover has some library card envelope staining and residue on the lower right corner on the front and a faint library location stamp in light ink near the center towards the top. The back cover is in excellent shape, and there is only a 1/4 inch split near the bottom right corner at the opening with no other splits or damage. Even with the swish noise, this record is worth the listen and very entertaining, especially if you are a collector of psych or drug styled spoken records. This is so strange and freaked out that I wouldn't be suprised if Miss Nelson and Bruce weren't hallucinating while recording it. Truly a don't miss experience!
