Description
NOT to be confused with that other group, who also had a touch of wind about them, Earth And Fire were a Dutch band with a striking female singer, Jerney Kaagman, who produced some strong fuzz-psych styled heavy rock in the late sixties and early seventies, perhaps peaking with this Penny Farthing (PEN741) single, issued in October, 1970. Very catchy, with freakbeat, psych and rock influences all over the song and performance, garnished with fuzz guitar galore and a strong vocal input. Somehow the single, 'Ruby Is The One' did not trouble the charts in the UK, although it was lapped up by the Dutch and Belgians who put it into their top 20. The B side, 'Mechanical Lover' is also a strong performance. This is an excellent promo copy, sent to me for review purposes at the time, and played a minimal number of times, sustaining no spindle wear and displaying no significant flaws whatsoever. It is even contained in its original Penny Farthing orange sleeve featuring the image of, yes, a Penny Farthing bicycle.
