Description
The Public Image Ltd. album “Second Edition” is a notable release in the post-punk genre. Originally issued in the UK as “Metal Box,” it was packaged in a round metal container and comprised three 12” records played at 45 RPM. However, for the North American market, Warner Brothers opted for more conventional packaging due to cost concerns, resulting in the “Second Edition” title. This version was pressed as a double LP at 33 RPM and housed in a standard gatefold sleeve. The album was released under the catalog number 2WX-3288 and includes tracks such as “Albatross,” “Memories,” “Swan Lake” (a slightly different version of the track “Death Disco”), “Poptones,” and “Careering.” The album was produced by Public Image Ltd. themselves and features John Lydon (formerly of the Sex Pistols) on vocals, Keith Levene on guitar, Jah Wobble on bass, and contributions from other members like Jeanette Lee and Dave Crowe. The album’s sound is characterized by its experimental approach, blending elements of dub, rock, and avant-garde music.
