Description

CROYDON GREYHOUND
Iconic Punk/New Wave Venue
Letter 'E' from 'Courage'

This is the original letter 'E' from the 'Courage' logo which used to feature on the front of Croydon's iconic music venue.
The venue was key to the burgeoning punk/new wave scene in the mid to late 1970s. Prior to that it drew big name acts
before they became famous.  The most famous line up was David Bowie supported by Roxy Music. Legend has it  Mott the Hoople heard Bowie perform All The Young Dudes at the Greyhound before asking him at the bar afterwards if they could record it.
During the refurbishment of the venue in the 1980s, my father, who worked round the corner at a design agency in George Street saw they were taking down the signage. Being interested in typography he asked the site foreman if he could take one of the letters from the Courage logo. Hence why we have had this for the past 30+ years.
When the signage was removed it was damaged. See pictures.
Item will come with LOA.
Happy bidding!
