Description
Best 1001. Mono. From 1964. Bass player Steve Leonard wrote "Penetration" to cash in on the "Pipeline" surf hit of a year earlier. The Pyramids actually were more of a party band, with Black vocalist and rhythm guitarist Willy Glover splitting the vocals with lead guitarist Skip Mercier, Ron McMullen drumming up a storm and Tom Pittman on honkin' sax. They touch all bases on this LP. The vinyl is VG and many tics are present throughout. The cover shows wear, but is free from major defects. The names of the group are written in small print on the back cover. This is the true first pressing with "Walkin' The Dog", which was replaced by "Road Runner" on all subsequent issues. Tracks are:
Side One: Penetration (inst.), Louie, Louie (vocal), Paul ( surf inst...their first single), Long Tall Texan (Vocal), Koko Joe (fast vocal--Don & Dewey hit), Walkin' The Dog (Rufus Thomas...tics through the last half of this tune).
Side Two: Out Of Limits (Inst. supposedly a Marketts outtake), Here Comes Marsha (vocal written and sung by Willy), Pyramid Stomp (Nice lead...inst. written by Mercier) Do The Slauson (vocal-Round Robin hit), Everybody (vocal...Tommy Roe Hit), Sticks And Skins (inst. featuring drummer).
