QUATERMASS: “S/T”
Label: HARVEST
Label Number: SHVL-755
- FIRST ORIGINAL UK PRESSING FROM 1970.
- Comes on collectible HARVEST label – 1st press with NO EMI on label
- This is the earliest pressing ever with matrix number ending in A1 and B2 respectively – machine stamped in the dead wax!!!!
- TRUE 1st PRESSING with ‘The Gramophone Co Ltd’ text on the label rims and seldom seen A.I.R. text at the 9 o’clock position – confirming this is a very first issue and one of the earliest pressing ever.
- Stunning gatefold jacket with front and back lamination. It was designed and photographed by Hipgnosis and was printed and made in England by Garrod and Lofthouse. The imprint includes the original ‘Patent Pending’ text.
- GREAT CONDITION!!!!!
GRADING:
LP Record: Excellent – beautiful shiny and glossy vinyl with only a couple of faint paper sleeve hairlines visible under a bright light.Totally superficial and non-sounding barely marks visible under a bright light but little else. Visually a super record that should please most collectors again.
Gatefold Jacket: Excellent ~ Near Mint
Lamination – Front & Back: Both sides look fantastic with laminate as clear, fresh and shiny as it almost can get. The surface shine is glass-like with the smoothness of ice. NO creasing with total adhesion on the card, this has no lifting of blisters at all. Even under light, hardly any surface marks, even super-fine hairlines, this rare cover is amazing and visually it will take something near miraculous to better it.
Top Edges: Barely any traces of wear and pretty straight too.
Bottom Edges: A light pressure rub on the back centre area, it shows little and both edges are neat and straight.
Right Edge(s), and Type: Clean, mostly sharp with little wear and no feathering and both guaranteed untrimmed. Record enters on the back edge.
Spine and Text: Solid but not that thick and it forms a central crease over time when opened. Hence the laminate tightens, cracks, and then usually peels. This one is in fantastic condition and (very unusually) retains FULL laminate coverage with no peeling and any cracking traces minuscule. Solid, straight with barely any hint of compression and folded square. Any central crease line is very mild indeed, hence the ‘Quatermass’ text is not sunken and is totally unworn.
Corners: All corners are incredibly neat and crisp with any tip rubs tiny or none. Only right upper corner has a small 2 mm kind of wear dent.
Some words on this issue: QUATERMASS:“S/T” (Harvest – SHVL-775) First original pressing on harvest Label NO EMI on label, 1970 1st issue original in great condition. “It’s really quite unbelievable to witness the heights of sophistication and complexity that pop now has reached. … A rock group is now free to make any sound it feels it wants and in the case of Quatermass the result is awe-inspiring … A really outstanding record which should not go neglected” (Melody Maker 16/5/70). Amazing rock slide that stands out through its limited lack of guitars and this is on this one only a benefit that makes it stand out even more. Brilliant all way through and one of the often-neglected gemstones hidden in the Harvest catalogue. Killer!!! Rare and fantastic copy of this prized Harvest album. One of the most sort-after albums in the early Harvest catalogue. Hardly a big seller and not available too long in it’s original cover format. Like Bakerloo, this one-off album is very rarely seen and seldom in anything like fine condition.

Our grading scale: Mint/ Near Mint/ Excellent/ VG++/. We don’t sell anything below VG++. VG++ grade is basically that the record has some scuffs and has wear. Excellent: record has hardly no visible defects and is preserved with care and attention, the condition most collectors take pride in to file away. Near Mint: a dash below mint, just perfect.
