Queen were straining at the boundaries of hard rock and heavy metal on Sheer Heart Attack, but they broke down all the barricades on A Night at the Opera, a self-consciously ridiculous and overblown hard rock masterpiece. Using the multi-layered guitars of its predecessor as a foundation, A Night at the Opera encompasses metal ("Death on Two Legs," "Sweet Lady"), pop (the lovely, shimmering "You're My Best Friend"), campy British music hall ("Lazing on a Sunday Afternoon," "Seaside Rendezvous"), and mystical prog rock ("'39," "The Prophet's Song"), eventually bringing it all together on the pseudo-operatic "Bohemian Rhapsody." In short, it's a lot like Queen's own version of Led Zeppelin IV, but where Zep find dark menace in bombast, Queen celebrate their own pomposity. No one in the band takes anything too seriously, otherwise the arrangements wouldn't be as ludicrously exaggerated as they are. But the appeal -- and the influence -- of A Night at the Opera is in its detailed, meticulous productions. It's prog rock with a sense of humor as well as dynamics, and Queen never bettered their approach anywhere else.

ALBUM COVER - NEAR MINT: Pretty much perfect , no corner dings , marks , tears , dents , impressions from the disc , or any other flaws . The artwork is as close to perfection as possible. No wrinkles, puckers, seam splits or writing on the cover. ink wear. Very slight age related yellowing on the front sleeve opening , and some light very faint marks on the reverse due to handling . Having said that i'm probably being a little harsh on the basis that this a forty year old brilliant white album cover . The open edge is sharp and without fault with no signs of feathering or rub , the spine is clear and straight with no imperfections whatsoever - belying its age of over 40 YEARS !!!

VINYL - NEAR MINT - The vinyl is virtually flawless, bright and shiny , with the flat matt labels on both sides being clean and mark free . This SUPERB vinyl looks unplayed and has retained all its glossy sheen and finish . It looks fantastic and is in incredible condition for an LP of this age . The edges are SILKY SMOOTH , typical of these VINTAGE PRESSES .

INNER SLEEVE - EXCELLENT - NEAR MINT - No rips , tears , or obvious signs of handling or inkwear . There is as is often the case a slit in the creasefold at the bottom of the sleeve , however , this doesnt detract from its overall condition .
