Description

Queen At The Beeb (1973) A1/B1

At very nearly 30 years old this very first pressing plays 'as new' and the visual quality of the vinyl is stunning.  The cover is also in fantastic condition.

BOJLP001 // A - 1 / B - 1

The audio on S1 is Mint (track 1 is Mint-)

The audio on S2 is Mint

The cover is Mint-

The inner is Mint

The labels are Mint

Visual grading

This plays as Mint and visually is Mint also.  I have never seen a cleaner more impressive version.  The vinyl has a stunning glossy mirror like sheen that has only ever been played once in my opinion and even then perhaps not all the tracks.  There is only one tiny spindle barely visible spindle trace on each label and there are no hairlines or scratches at all.  The run out grooves also could not be any cleaner.  To all intents and purposes this is 'as new'.  Now nearly 30 years old you will not find better!  There is just one very minor 'kink' in the vinyl on one edge, about 1cm, but I would not classify it as a warp and has not affect on the immaculate audio.

Play grading

I have played every track on S1 and I am pleased to report that the quality is astounding.  There is just a super quick bass type sound on 'My Fairy King'.  It isn't a pop so maybe it was just in the BBC studio at the time!  Aside from that the sonic quality on this track is 'high end' and the quiet sections play with stunning clarity.  There is just no other interference on this track whatsoever, absolutely stunning!  'Keep Yourself Alive' is quite simply Mint from start to finish you will not hear better.  It is patently obvious this vinyl has hardly been played.  'Doin' Alright' just has to be heard to be believed!  The intro plays so quietly of course and yet all you can hear is the music in all its glory with not even a dust tick let alone any static, crackle etc!  The clarity could not be any better and the louder guitar sections are equally as impressive with no distortion.  This track also deserves a Mint grading - I know it isn't sealed but the quality is just immaculate.  It's very interesting hearing Roger sing one of the verses which makes this LP collectable for that reason alone.  'Liar' ends S1 with incredible power and depth and again there is no interference to be heard.  Audio does not get better than this!

S2 plays to exactly the same standard.  There is no lead in static and from the very first note 'Ogre Battle' plays with impeccable precision and again not one single click or pop, just pure unadulterated perfect sound.  'Great King Rat' again impresses with stunning clarity although (incredibly!) I did hear two soft dust ticks!  This version of 'Modern Times Rock 'N' Roll' is absolutely stunning!  I have never heard it play better.  The strength and depth is 'high end' and it plays as Mint without doubt.  The final track 'Son And Daughter' ends the album in sublime style with superlative quality once more.  There is no distortion and the bass here is so strong.  This could not play any better and again is 'as new'.  Wow!

In summary you will not find a better 'At The Beeb' than this and is a final upgrade archive copy for certain.  As stated on the sleeve notes this is an event.  It is so interesting to hear Queen play these tracks 'live' so early in their career and is a fascinating insight into their craft.  Some of the versions are vastly different, for example there is a long guitar solo from 'Brighton Rock' in the middle of 'Son And Daughter'!  With complete silence in the dead wax between every track and every intro and fade out playing with superb clarity this is a superb Mint quality vinyl from start to finish.

The Cover

The cover is a superb example of its kind and the best I have seen in many a year.  The edges and spine are 'as new' with no rubbing and the corners have no wear either and that is also the case with the opening edge.  The front cover is beautifully clean with no marking and the back cover just has a couple of very small faint marks.  Most sellers would not even mention this as it still looks superb!  The cover still has a very firm, strong feel to it as if it has been hardly handled.  Quite possibly the best I have seen in fact - in amazing condition for nearly 30 years of age.

The Inner

The plain white die-cut inner is immaculate condition with no wear.

The labels

They are both in sublime condition with no marking/writing and only a mega faint trace of spindle wear on each side.
