This album provides a superb insight into early Queen and this particular first pressing plays with wonderful clarity and such a strong dynamic 'live' sound.  There is only a minimal amount of light static on one track on S1 and overall the audio is so impressive.  This is a record that has not often been on a turntable!

The cover is also in superb shape and I would go so far to say it is 'as new'.  The plain die-cut inner has no wear either.  A superb 'package' overall.

This record is in lovely condition and retains a very healthy glossy sheen.  It is visually stunning and S1 has only one small faint hairline on track two and S2 just one very faint hairline on the final track.  They obviously have no affect on the stunning audio and there are no marks or scratches on either side.  There is only a minimal amount of spindle wear and it is clear this record has not been overplayed.  The run out grooves and labels are also in fantastic condition.

Play grading  

'My Fairy King' plays superbly from the very first groove with only one very light tick on the intro.  It continues to play with great power and depth and the quieter section towards has only the lightest of static in the background.  The remainder is nigh on perfect with only minimal static at the end.  This deserves a Near Mint grading.

From start to finish 'Keep Yourself Alive' plays with stunning clarity and without any interference.  It is a very strong version and even the fade out is super 'clean'.  Mint- I am happy to say.

'Doin' Alright' is very impressive for a track that has so many quiet sections.  There is hardly any static on the intro and only one mega light tick.  There is just a little more static during the 'should be waiting for the sun' verse but it is not intrusive and from then on it plays with great clarity.  It's very interesting hearing Roger sing the next verse!  The final section exudes power and there is only a minor hint of light static right at the end.  This is Ex+ overall but there are many sections that grade higher than that.

The 'live' version of 'Liar' is superb!  From the high energy of the intro to the first verse the playback is stunning and there is no interference of any kind.  It continues in much the same way and with barely any inner groove distortion and is a very impressive version.  There are no clicks or pops and no static or crackle either and easily deserves a Near Mint grade.

'Ogre Battle' plays with incredible power and clarity throughout and again there is no interference.  A stunning Near Mint version I am confident in saying.

'Great King Rat' has barely any static on the intro and then plays as only a lightly played vinyl can.  This a truly breathtaking version and with only a brief moment of light static prior to the final guitar section the playback could hardly be improved upon.  Fantastic!  This is Near Mint although I am sure many would grade higher!

'Modern Times Rock 'N' Roll' rocks out in sublime fashion and plays with a real sense of depth and great sonic quality.  This is Mint- the audio could not be any stronger.

The intro on 'Son And Daughter' impresses on every level and continues to play with stunning quality.  This extended version encapsulates all that is good about early Queen.  The musicianship is top quality and Freddie's vocals are at their very best.  The 'Brighton Rock' interlude is absolutely stunning and to the end this track plays with supreme power and definition.  I cannot adequately put intro words just how good the audio is here.  Wow!  A Mint- finish to the album.

In summary this superb album plays with a quality that is rarely heard today.  There are no clicks or pops, no intrusive interference at all.  The power and depth of the audio is phenomenal and this is one album that I often think is underrated.  It really shows what early Queen was all about and as I said before the musicianship is what stands out here.  S1 was recorded at the BBC even before the first album was released and yet the professionalism is there for all to see.  S1 is so impressive but S2 is even better!  Now over 30 years old this LP has only been lightly played and that reflects in the playback.  The winning bidder will not be disappointed!

The Cover

The cover is in fantastic condition and is 'as new' I am happy to say.  It has no wear of any kind and remains very strong and robust as if it has hardly ever been handled.  It has no marking and is a stunning example of its kind.

The Inner Sleeve

The plain white die-cut inner is also in pristine condition with no side splits, marking or creasing.

The Labels

They are immaculate with no marking or writing and only 3,4 faint spindle traces on the S2 labels, nothing on S1.

Play tested on my Pro-Ject Essential III Turntable / B&W 684 Speakers

This record has been professionally cleaned on a Pro-Ject VC-S machine
