This sleeve is very RARE because it was withdrawn within a few days of release and replaced with the common red sleeve.

Very few of these can be found and many that do turn up are in poor condition.

RECORD HISTORY

There is a myth that this sleeve was withdrawn because Brian May thought the 'live' picture would mislead people to think it is a live version of the song. However, here is what actually happened.

This is a direct quote from the brilliant Queen fan website Queenmuseum.com:

“The only retired official Queen ps is the live sleeve of Hammer to Fall. A certain number of copies of this single were distributed already before a retire call came from the band. Many people think that Brian thought people could think it was a live version so he didn’t like it but this seems not true. A collector from UK , Paul Webb, kindly reported his meeting with Brian and information about the famous live sleeve.

"I have a 12" copy of the live p/sleeve, and on Brian's 1998 Another World Tour I won a QFC competition to meet the great man before the Royal Albert Hall show. I took my p/sleeve with me for Brian to sign, and inevitably I put the question to him "Why was this cover withdrawn?

His reply was (and I remember it as if it were yesterday):

"Ah yes, I get the blame for this don't I. Well it's not true, it wasn't my fault that it got withdrawn. The man who took the picture was not an Official Queen photographer. This meant that we would have had to pay vast sums of money to him for using this picture. This all came to light just in time and the live cover was taken off the shelves. I really like the picture, I think it's so much better than the red version".

This was direct from the man himself so the 'Brian doesn't like it' story is an urban myth.”

I have bought a lot of records over the years but have only recently started selling any. I have a great collection of records, many of them rare, and the reason I’m now selling is that I simply need to make some space as I wish to start a new phase of collecting other bands’ material.

So far, I have already sold my extensive Led Zeppelin collection privately to collectors and dealers and I now have my Queen collection to sell. I will be selling many Queen records through ebay and my remaining records to dealers as I simply don’t have the time to sell everything individually.

As you will see from my feedback I have only recently started selling on E-Bay but you can see I have a 100% perfect record as a trusted and responsible buyer of 100s of records over the years. I am proud of this 100% reputation and I take it into my new phase as a seller.
