QUEEN I 3U/ 3U (1st pressing)

On offer here is a rare 3U/3U first pressing of Queen's debut LP with 'Kip-Huggy Poo Kissy' etched on the dead wax of Side One and 'Again!' etched on Side Two.

Visual grading

This rare LP does have some very faint hairlines on each side but definitely no scratches.  I would say they have been caused by sleeve removal only considering how fine they are and I doubt if the vinyl has actually been played that much as there is very little spindle wear on the labels.  For a first pressing the audio is of a very high standard as my play testing below confirms.  The vinyl still has that lovely glossy sheen and is in great condition for 43 years old.

Play grading

Side One plays with wonderful quality considering the age.  There is a slight hint of static here and there but what I like about these early pressings is how loud in the mix the audio is.  For a debut it was certainly produced with 'loud sound' and plays extremely well through my speakers.  There are no clicks, pops or jumps at all on this side and whilst there is very faint static during some of the quieter sections the audio is exceptional.  This has to be one of the best versions of 'Great King Rat' I have ever heard.  The same can be said for 'My Fairy King' also, fantastic audio.

There is some light static at the beginning of 'Liar' but again the sound comes through very powerfully and thereafter plays superbly well with just a hint of distortion perhaps.  'The Night Comes Down' plays very clearly with only the faintest of static in the quieter sections but not intrusive in any way.  A fantastic version of 'Modern Times...' follows with Mint quality audio and even then 'Jesus' plays with real quality, yes with some distortion as it always does but still a excellent listen.  The short rendition of 'Seven Seas...' does suffer with some distortion sadly.

In summary this is a quality first press with wonderful audio and rare to find on a first pressing when you consider the age and how much they were played to death in the early 70s.  Any fan would be very pleased to own this highly collectible LP.

Cover 

The Garrod and Lofthouse sleeve has been looked after extremely well and only has very minor shelf wear.  It is certainly one of the best I have seen in a while and especially so for a first press.  The edges and thin pinched spine are extremely clean and there is only very minor rubbing to the bottom two corners.  It really is an exceptional cover.  No marks or writing anywhere, just a couple of small creases, the cover has stood the test of time very well.  'Queen' and the catalogue number remain 100% legible both on the spine and along the top edge.  The opening edge is also very clean and has only minimal handling wear.

Inner sleeve

This has the original die-cut 'Care of your Record' sleeve with no splits or tears just a little creasing.

Labels

They are in excellent condition with only a little spindle wear.
