Description

Jazz 1U/1U (first pressing)

This 1U/1U first pressing of Jazz is without doubt the best, I have ever heard and plays with nigh on perfect audio.  What makes it even more of a rarity is that it has extremely low mother stampers and to find such an early 1U/1U pressing in this condition is more or less unheard of.  The picture sleeve is actually polylined which has obviously helped a great deal in retaining its 'new' quality.  The infamous poster whilst not attached any longer remains in superb condition.

Visual grading

Visually the vinyl is almost perfect.  It has a fantastic glossy sheen even after all these years and under a strong bright light I could only detect one very faint hairline on Side Two that has no affect on the audio at all.  There is also only the slightest of spindle wear which confirms it has been hardly played and this is reflected in my play grading below.  It has audio of the highest calibre.

Play grading

You know you're onto a winner when the first track plays with no lead in static.  'Mustapha' plays with amazing quality and no interference, I cannot stress how good it is!  Mint standard.  With complete silence between tracks this is a first press of immense quality and has obviously been hardly played.  In fact I am astounded at the sheer depth of sound on every track.  It is quite possibly the best 'If You Can't Beat Them' I have heard as it often plays with a little distortion, but not here.  I am confident in grading this side as Mint- but the minus is only there as the LP isn't sealed.  This side practically plays as new such is the quality.  'Let Me Entertain You' does play with slight distortion but this always occurs with this track being the last on the side where the grooves are pressed closer together.  Don't let it detract you though, because this is audio of the highest quality which is extremely rare on a 1U/1U first pressing.

'Dead On Time' starts with no lead in static again.  The sign of a quality vinyl is how good the quiet tracks play and 'In Only Seven Days' is a stunning example of this and once again has no interference.  The clarity and richness of the sound continues throughout this side and the remaining tracks play with equal quality.  Absolutely stunning.  This is the best 1U/1U pressing I have ever had the pleasure of listening to, in fact probably the best pressing of any kind!

In summary this is a genuine final upgrade copy.  For a first pressing that is nearing 40 years of age it is just so rare to find audio quality as good as this.  You have static even on new vinyl and on this one I heard only a handful of static ticks that are obviously so much in the background as to be totally negligible.  There are no clicks, pops, sticks or jumps and audio does not come better than this!  And especially on one with such low mother stampers.

Gatefold cover

The gatefold is in wonderful condition except for a couple of minor areas of shelf wear but remains one of the best I have seen in a long while.  The edges are very clean with only a handful of 'rubs' and the opening edge looks barely handled.  The corners have very slight rubbing and there is a very small area of wear towards the bottom of the opening edge.  In saying all that the gatefold is extremely clean and has no markings or writing anywhere.  So often the reverse side is stained due to its 'whiteness' but this one is like new.  The inside of the gatefold is in superb condition, like new.  As per all the first/early pressings the cover has the embossed 'Jazz' logo on both sides.

Picture inner

This is in near perfect condition and and includes a polylined inner.

Labels

They both remain in wonderful condition with no barely any spindle wear.

Play tested on my Technics SL-J110R turntable system.
