Jazz 1U/1U (1st pressing with Attached Poster)

This first pressing has audio of an immaculate standard with hardly any interference and is a final upgrade archive copy without doubt.  It includes the infamous poster which is still attached to the gatefold.  The gatefold is also in superb condition as is the picture inner.

One of the earlier first pressings this only has two stampers on each side, they are commonly found with three.

 Visual grading

  This is stunning visually and under a strong bright light I can only detect one very faint hairline on S1 and S2 is immaculate.  It has been hardly played, perhaps once or twice, as there is hardly any spindle wear at all, just one mega small trace on each centre hole.  It has a fantastic glossy sheen for 40 years of age and there are certainly no scratches.  The run out grooves are also in beautiful condition and are spotlessly clean.  What a superb looking first press!

Play grading

'Mustapha' plays with incredible clarity and depth with only a very minor hint of static on the intro.  No clicks, no pops - a superb start to S1 and this wonderful quality prevails throughout the entire side.  With only one click during 'Fat Bottomed Girls' being the only obvious 'background' the depth and sonic quality on every track is stunning.  Again a little 'background' start on the 'Jealousy' intro but nothing that detracts from the Mint- audio thereafter.  The often underrated 'If You Can't Beat Them' has superlative audio and with none of the distortion that you so often find.  'Let Me Entertain You' plays with 'high end' sound again and provides a superb end to the side.

'Dead On Time' on S2 can again be graded as Mint- the sound is just immaculate.  It plays loud and true and with no distortion once more.  'In Only Seven Days' plays to near perfection but with a very small number of light dust ticks and one static/crackle sound towards the end.  'Dreamers Ball' is sublime from beginning to end and rarely have I heard this track impress with such amazing clarity.  The remainder of the side displays audio of an impeccable standard with no interference at all.  The classic 'Don't Stop Me Now' is a genuine highlight and plays with absolute perfection.  The fade out has no 'background' at all.  'More Of That Jazz' ends the album with Mint- audio, it plays with immense power and no distortion once more.

In summary the audio on this genuine first pressing is of an immaculate standard and it is relatively rare to find such an early 1U/1U playing as well as this today.  With only one click and one obvious crackle it has to be one of the cleanest I have ever had the pleasure in listening to.  Even rarer to find a first pressing with the poster still attached albeit by only about 50%.

Gatefold Cover

This is in lovely condition with only very minor shelf wear.  It has the embossed 'Jazz' logo on the front and the edges are in excellent shape with very little rubbing.  The wide spine has a small amount of wear on the top and bottom and the usual crease lines caused by the gatefold being opened but is otherwise in excellent order.  The opening edge looks hardly handled.  Both the front and back cover are beautifully clean with no marking, just a couple of minor creases, and it is easily one of the cleanest I have ever seen.  The inside is immaculate and as stated the poster remains 50% attached.  A fine example overall of this iconic cover.

Picture inner & Poster

Produced on heavy duty card the glossy inner is is in superb condition with no splits.  The poster is in great shape with no marking, tears or creasing.

They have no marking or writing and only one tiny spindle trace on each side.
