QUEEN - KEEP YOURSELF ALIVE / SON AND DAUGHTER EMI 2036
A very rare UK DJ/DEMO copy of QUEEN'S FIRST SINGLE in MINT CONDITION.
MORE IMPORTANTLY - IT IS THE WRONG MIX!
The release date printed on the label is 15.6.73. The released single has a later date printed on it.
In 1973 I did PR at EMI and when we were told to pull all the copies because of the wrong mix, I grabbed this for my collection.
THE MIX: It is similar to the released version. This is back in the day when every time a mix was made it was slightly different - there were no computers back then. What happened is either an engineer gave the wrong mix to the label for pressing, or the band/producer changed their mind.
THIS VERSION WAS NEVER RELEASED. ALL COPIES HAD TO BE RETURNED, SO THERE ARE VERY FEW IN EXISTENCE.
The matrix numbers are SIDE A - EMI 2036 A - 1U / SIDE B EMI 2036 B - 1U. There is also a KT TAX CODE on both sides.
The A side has a large letter 'A' above the spindle for DJs, and the copy DEMO RECORD NOT FOR RESALE on both sides of the record.
It has the release date 15.6.73 on both sides on the inner part of the label.
I can guarantee it has never been played or even taken from the sleeve until writing up this listing. It has been kept in a box for 37 years, so all the colours on the sleeve and label are just as bright as the day it came into the office.
The sleeve is in MINT condition. There are no marks, bends or tears. The colours are bright with no fading.
