Queen : Queen Rocks Montreal (Limited Edition Box Set)
I recently purchased a stunning Queen collection among which were a selection of their more 'modern' releases including a stunning version of this very collectable and rare box set.
The audio plays to a fantastic standard and I suspect has never been played before. The clarity, depth and power of the audio cannot be faulted. This is of course one of the most collectable 'live' recordings as it was only produced in limited quantities and because it is so darn good! This box cover has also been so well preserved and the picture inners are also 'as new' with no wear.
Released in 2007 the vinyls were pressed on super heavyweight vinyl and were 1/2 speed mastered. Can you believe the Montreal concerts were nearly 40 years ago?

Visual grading
The vinyls are visually stunning and have no spindle wear. There are no scratches and I could only detect 4/5 faint sleeve removal hairlines in total. There are some of the usual sweep marks but do not be put off by this as they are always found with this release. It's just the way the records were pressed/manufactured and they obviously have no affect on the audio. The run out grooves are super clean and the labels are perfect with no marking.
Play grading
I have played every side and there is no need to describe each track in detail. S1 starts with a stunning 'fast' version of 'We Will Rock You' and ends with a majestic version of 'Somebody To Love'. The clarity, power and depth of the audio is 'as new' and it is patently obvious this boxset has hardly been played and perhaps not at all. There is no interference across the entire side and easily grades as Mint- the sonic quality is that good. S2 plays to the same 'high end' standard with a great version of 'I'm In Love With My Car' - Roger's voice is very strong here.S3 is so close to perfect with only a small number of light ticks during the quieter section of the 'Now I'm Here' reprise. They are very quiet and hardly intrusive. 'Love Of My Life' is superb! The clarity here is outstanding and I have never heard such a clear 'live' version, there is not even a single dust tick STUNNING audio! S4 again plays with sublime quality from start to finish with no intrusion.
'Crazy Little Thing Called Love' begins S5 in fine style with superb audio - incredible depth on this track and an interesting 'heavier' version also. It continues in the same way and 'Bohemian Rhapsody' provides further evidence of a beautifully preserved record. No ticks etc just pure unadulterated Mint audio from start to finish. 'Tie Your Mother Down' rocks out good and proper with perfect audio once again. S6 plays with exceptional quality from the get go - 'Another One Bites The Dust' is 'as new' and the remaining tracks do not disappoint either. The usual encores of 'We Will Rock You' and 'We Are The Champions' end the album with...no interference.
In summary this very collectable boxset plays to a superb standard but then that is to be expected as they have been so well preserved and perhaps never played. The clarity and power across all six sides is phenomenal and in my opinion is one of the finest 'live' albums out there. I assume the super heavy vinyl helps but the recording is so faithful to the actual 'live' experience, the production really is very impressive. A must for any die-hard Queen fan!
The Box Cover & Picture Inners
The box is in superb condition and has retained its original shape perfectly with no wear to the 'edges' and no corner splits. Nothing has ever been placed on top so it has not been flattened at all and the only 'wear' I can see are 4/5 very faint indents on the back which you can only see when you hold it at a certain angle. The inside of the box is immaculate with no marking either. A stunning example!
The glossy picture inners are in lovely condition with no marking and for once they have no side splits.
Play tested on my Pro-Ject Essential III Turntable / B&W 684 Speakers
The records have been cleaned on a Pro-Ject VC-S machine
