Description
This rare first press of Sheer Heart Attack is in superb condition and having play tested the entire LP I can confirm that the audio plays with a wonderful depth and quality. The vinyl has that glossy sheen and has no scratches or hairlines I would say this record has been hardly played. Visually the vinyl is stunning and is one of the best, if not the best, I have seen for a rare first press.
'Brighton Rock' plays extremely well with a wonderful deep bass and plays perfectly bar a couple of light clicks. The remainder of Side One plays with a rich deep audio with minimal interference. In fact there is barely any crackle apart from during 'Lily Of The Valley' when you do hear a little but it is in no way obtrusive. I just grade honestly and often grade too harshly I believe. For over 40 years old the vinyl Side One plays extremely well for a first press. 'Now I'm Here' again plays solidly with perhaps just a little distortion. This is common on last tracks where the grooves were pressed closer together in order to fit onto the side.
'In The Lap Of The Gods' starts Side Two superbly with no lead in static and fantastic audio. If anything this side plays with more clarity and for such a quiet track 'Dear Friends' plays wonderfully well. The same can be said for the remaining tracks. Just one light click at the beginning of 'In The Lap Of The Gods...revisited'. Overall though a quality first press and would be hard to better it.
The laminated cover is probably the best I have seen for a first press. The laminate often gets damaged over the course of time with plenty of creases also but not with this one. There are just a few very minor ones that really aren't that noticeable. It has been superbly well looked after with almost zero wear. The edges and thin pinched spine are in superlative condition and as I say I haven't seen better. It has a very clean opening edge also and has no marks on the front or reverse.
The lyric sleeve is one of the better ones you will find and is in overall great condition. There are no splits which is rare being a paper sleeve over 40 years old! It just has one 0.5cm tear on the reverse side although is hard to see and a crease top right. It is however certainly one of the best I have seen and is free of any writing or marks.
