Another from my personal collection! I have owned this lp from new and initially only ever played this to record to tape and then it was stored in a case with the vinyl removed from the cover for protection! This is how I have always stored my records! (I can not see any spider trails on the labels) Stunning earliest 1st issue featuring A1U and B1U matrix endings the earliest for the best possible audio quality on vinyl! Near as mint audio quality and barely ever played vinyl and complete with original 1st UK issue cover and original card picture and lyric record sleeve!  A lovely and scarce to find in this condition!

The Works is the eleventh studio album by the British rock band Queen.




It was released on 27 February 1984 by EMI Records in the United Kingdom and it is the band's first studio album to be released by Capitol Records in the United States.



After the synth-heavy Hot Space (1982), the album saw the re-emergence of Brian May and Roger Taylor's rock sound, while still incorporating the early 80s retro futuristic electronic music (Freddie Mercury) and New York funk scenes (John Deacon).






Recorded at the Record Plant Studios in Los Angeles, California and Musicland Studios in Munich, Germany from August 1983 to January 1984, the album's title comes from a comment Taylor made as recording began – "Let's give them the works!".



During the decade, after a negative reaction against and ban of the music video for "I Want to Break Free" in the United States, the band decided not to tour in North America and lost the top spot in US sales, but sales around the world (especially Europe) would be even better. Despite failing to reach #1, it spent 94 weeks on the UK Albums Chart, the longest for a Queen studio album. The Works has sold over 6 million copies worldwide.

Professional ratings


Rolling Stone's Parke Puterbaugh described it as their "first real album in some time" and "a royal feast of hard rock".


Sandy Robertson, in a 3-star review for Sounds, wrote "This time around, Queen have played it safe."


In a retrospective review, Greg Prato of AllMusic felt that "while the songwriting had definitely improved" from its predecessor Hot Space, he also believed "the album sonically lacked the punch of such earlier releases as News of the World and The Game".

The Vinyl

This lays perfectly flat on the turntable and is free of any warping. Visually this looks barely ever played my opinion! On close scrutiny I see just light surface grazes caused from the original card sleeve but nothing that would cause clicks, ticks or pops at all. No nasty feelable or audio sounding scratches or marks at all that I can see. Any marks that could possibly be seen would be light sleeve removal type only,, Importantly no marks that would cause any loud annoying constant clicks or pops.

The Labels
The original EMI Labels (ORIGINAL 1st UK issues) These are lovely and clean with no marks or tears. I find it hard to see any spider traces on each side around the spindle hole. This has barely ever been played at all in my opinion!

The Audio Quality
I have played the vinyl at very loud volume on a top system and fully recorded the record for you to hear for yourself in the player provided above! This audio is absolutely awesome throughout! Please note! One of the best sounding copies that I have heard of this album, super deep bassey feel and cristal clear and vibrant through out! No clicks or pops heard at all!  You will find it hard to find a better sounding copy! Audio Near Mint through out looks in barely ever played condition! 38 years old like this!

Please Note, I always add this disclaimer! Please allow for isolated static. This album is 37 years old and would have originally been played on a 37 years old system!
This album has been stored in a case, laying dormant, with the vinyl separated from the sleeve for protection for over 35 years! This is how I have always stored my records! A build up of dirt and dust in the groves from laying dormant causes static crackle/ticks. A constent cleaning before each play is highly recommended. This will enhance the audio quality and reduce any static interference!

The Record Sleeve
This is the original 1st issue stiff card picture/lyric record sleeve! No splits or tears at all. This is the original!

The Cover
This is the original 1st issue un-laminated press cover! No splits or tears no real nasty creases to talk of generally lovely and clean throughout! No real ring wear or nasty rubbing that is so common on these covers, all text can be read on the spine! Very minor corner bumping to note at the top corners. The spine is lovely all text clear and legible, minor crushing only! Lovely cover clean and straight graded at least better than excellent in my opinion!

Against the Grain is a 1975 studio album by Irish musician Rory Gallagher.




It was his first album with his new record company Chrysalis.




The album is mostly new songs written by Gallagher as well as some classic blues and R&B numbers. In contrast to previous studio albums by Gallagher it received very favorable reviews.




The album name and cover were a play on words. The cover shows the wood "grain" of Gallagher's famous Stratocaster guitar which was well worn from his rigorous tour schedule.




At the same time the phrase reflects Gallagher's relation with the music industry, that he always went "against the grain" and played the traditional blues and folk music he loved rather than focusing on singles and more commercially accessible music.




The album was released at a period when Gallagher was finally achieving some recognition in the United States.




 Rolling Stone gave the album an excellent review comparing Gallagher favorably to guitar legends Eric Clapton and Alvin Lee.




The same review spoke glowingly of Gallagher's band even though a previous Rolling Stone review of the album Deuce had called bassist Gerry McAvoy a "hack" whose bass playing was "highly pedestrian, almost pedantic"

William Rory Gallagher born 2 March 1948 – 14 June 1995) was an Irish blues-rock multi-instrumentalist, songwriter, and bandleader.





Born in Ballyshannon, County Donegal, and raised in Cork, Gallagher recorded solo albums throughout the 1970s and 1980s, after forming the band Taste during the late 1960s.


He was a talented guitarist known for his charismatic performances and dedication to his craft. Gallagher's albums have sold in excess of 30 million copies worldwide. Gallagher received a liver transplant in 1995, but died of complications later that year in London, UK at the age of 47

The Vinyl
