Das Bild von der Band mit der Drehtür, wo die Musiker rein- und rauslaufen, ist wohl das angemessenste für die Queens Of The Stone Age. Türsteher Josh Homme hatte kein Problem, seinen langjährigen Basser und Queens-Mitgründer Nick Olivieri durch diese Tür zu schicken, und trotzdem mit Lullabies To Paralyze eine hervorragende Scheibe abzuliefern.

Der geniale Desert-Sessions-Produzent Alain Johannes übernahm kurzerhand den Viersaiter, Mark Lanegan hat ein weiteres mal traumhafte Vocals beigesteuert, Billy Gibbons von ZZ Top kann auf "Burn The Witch" einmal mehr demonstrieren, was für ein hervorragender Blues-Gitarrist er ist. Aber die Magie der Queens liegt im Wechselbad von heftigem Rumgeholze mit einem bösen Drive, wie es bei "Medication", "Everybody Knows That You're Insane" oder der potentiellen nächsten Single "In My Head" der Fall ist, und abgefahrenen Experimenten mit Tango-Groove ("Tangled Up In Plaid"), dem völlig abgedrehten Sechsminüter "The Blood Is Love" oder dem orchesterbeheizten "Someones In The Wolf".

Man sagt ja gerne, die Queens hätten den Rock'n Roll gerettet, aber keiner sagt, wovor eigentlich, und ob er gerettet werden wollte. Was sie aber definitiv geschafft haben, ist eine stets überraschende und eigenständige Art, dieser Musik immer wieder neue Aspekte abzugewinnen. Das ist auch mit Lullabies to Paralyze wieder eindrucksvoll gelungen.

Lullabies to Paralyze is the fourth studio album by hard rock band Queens of the Stone Age and was released on March 21, 2005. Debuting at number 5 on the Billboard chart, the album sold 97,000 copies in America during its first week of release, eventually topping over 342,000 copies as of March, 2007 according to Nielsen Soundscan. The album has been certified gold in the UK, where it has sold over 100,000 units. It is also the band's first album to be released after Nick Oliveri was fired from the band.
