WHY THIS RECORD MATTERS

Queensrÿche's self-titled EP is one of the great origin stories in heavy metal. The band recorded a four-song demo tape and pressed it independently — and rather than touring clubs to build a following, they sent the tape directly to labels and the press. EMI America signed them off the strength of that demo alone, an almost unheard-of path to a record deal. This EP is the result: four tracks that announced a band with far more ambition and sophistication than the typical 1983 metal act.

Queen of the Reich, Nightrider, Blinded, and The Lady Wore Black showcase Geoff Tate's operatic vocal range and the twin-guitar interplay of Chris DeGarmo and Michael Wilton that would define the band's sound for the next decade. This EP directly led to the band's full-length debut The Warning the following year, and ultimately to Operation: Mindcrime, one of the most acclaimed concept albums in metal history.

This is where it all started.

CONDITION

VINYL: VG+ approaching Excellent — Clean, glossy grooves with excellent sheen. Plays with outstanding clarity. Light signs of age consistent with a 40+ year old record, nothing that detracts from the listening experience. This copy has been well preserved.

COVER: VG+ — The bold gold and purple medieval-style logo cover is striking and clean. Light wear on edges consistent with age. No splits, no water damage.

I grade conservatively using Goldmine standards.
