Overall condition is EXCELLENT
Sleeve EXCELLENT The unlaminated lightly textured sleeve has some very light, almost imperceptable ring wear and minimal rubbing to some corners but otherwise is in EXCELLENT condition with the colours still very bright there isn’t any writing, taping or stickers. The visual quality is amazing with the colours on the front mandala and the altar photos on the back vibrant and captivating. There is, however, some slight residue just inside the back cover where a small sticker had been removed, but this is not visible without peering inside the actual sleeve and doesn’t affect it in any way.
Spine there’s only minimal edge wear and the spine is firm and totally legible but ithas some very slight creasing.
Inner Sleeve The stiff card inner sleeve is still in EXCELLENTcondition, with the collage on one side and picture of the group in front of the universe on the other, still as sharp as when it was printed. I will also include the original plastic outer that I bought with it, although it is starting to split slightly at the top, it still fits tightly and has successfully kept the dust off for all these years
Record It’s pressed on heavyweight vinyl. The record itself is clean and glossy and the disc retains its deep, black vinyl sheen. There are some very feint hairline marks on both sides but nothing ugly or deep to affect the sound quality.
Labels EXCELLENT The labels show some minimal signs of use, have no writing and are clean with no visible spindle marking.
Audio Quality EXCELLENT The record itself is clean and glossy and plays well apart from some of the usual vinyl hiss, crackle and pops that unfortunately are noticeable in a couple of the quietest passages but vanish after a few seconds and don’t detract from the overall sound, which is still amazing. although deep cleaning would probably remove them.It lays flat on the turntable and plays well without the needle sticking or jumping.
(Please remember even new, factory fresh vinyl is likely to have some clicks and pops, but the richness of sound will always be better than digital. OK eventually the robots and aliens will make digital sound as good, but until then, it’s a compromise, you have to choose;deep rich tones and a beautiful sleeve, often with lyrics or other notes, or clinical sterility with nothing to see and a narrow frequency range.)
Since 1970 all my records have been played on a Pioneer PL12D with a Shure N75 ED-T2 cartridge and stylus, tracking at 1.5 grams which I continue to use today – although the stylus has been replaced regularly
Quintessence were a product of London’s Underground circuit and were one of those word of mouth sensations who achieved popularity and success by virtue of their music rather than due to any commercial hype. They were seen throughout Europe’s alternative clubs and festivals with the likes of Hawkwind, Tyrannosaurus Rex, the Third Ear Band, Free, Family,Pink Floyd, Mott The Hoople and Soft Machine. While the rest were equally adept musically, Quintessence added joy, spiritualism and philosophy as well as a healthy dose of world music to their performance.
Track list 1. Dive Deep 2. Dance For The One 3. Brahman 4. The Seer
5. Epitaph For Tomorrow 6. Sri Ram Chant
PRESSKIT I’m also including the press kit from the original album launch. I think it’s very rare, as I’ve never seen it referred to in books or on the web. For those who don’t know;a press kit contains all the information and images a journalist needs to produce their own story. These kits are only produced in very limited numbers and usually get heavy use in the newsrooms of the media, where time is more important than taking care to put things back properly. Consequently very few of them survive, most end up in the office bin once they are finished with. Amazingly this one has survived intact; although the cover is slightly creased it still retains its glossy black shine, the pages are all still clear, clean and undamaged, and the brilliant photos are still shiny and crisp, though two have very slight damage and/or markings where they have stuck together (see photos). If I were to grade it on the same scale as a record cover, I would rate it as EXCELLENT
Summary:this ICONIC,progressive rock masterwork album and Press Kit is a lovely piece of genuine memorabilia from a bygone time that changed the world,as well as the way that music is made, and would grace any collection. If you haven’t heard it on vinyl this could be for you. It certainly doesn’t sound 47years old. I’m not a dealer of any sort, but am just downsizing and having to clear things out and trying to survive on a poxy pension. Good luck with your bidding and feel free to ask any question.
A Word About Payment and Postage
Sorry but I accept Paypalonly and it will be posted as soon as payment has cleared, which mustbe paid within 24 hours of the end of the auction. This may seemharsh but I’m fed up with time wasters! I use 12" Vinyl LPRecord Cruciform postal mailers and protect them with an additionallayer of bubblewrap. In the UK I use Royal Mail Signed For. If yourequire some other form of postage/delivery, I’m more than happyproviding you meet the extra costs. If you are outside the UK, I willuse Ebay’s own service.
