This handsome and rare 10” LP from Lumen (LD 2 – 440, French pressing, green/silver label, stereo) features the Quatuor Pro Arte in the pioneering recording of the String Quartet in D minor by Jacques Leguerney (1906-1997), one of the last pupils of Nadia Boulanger and a sadly neglected French composer whose music richly deserves to be far better known.
Anyone who loves the music of Debussy, Fauré, Poulenc, or Françaix will find this highly accessible, and also highly individual, work a true and rewarding find.
The Quatuor Pro Arte was comprised of Suzanne Plazonich (1st violin), Chantal Beylier (2nd violin), Nicole Gendreu (viola), and Micheline Burtin (cello).
This album was the winner of the 1959 Grand Prix du Disque – Académie Charles Cross.
CONDITION – PLEASE READ VERY CAREFULLY:
The gradations of condition I use are as follows: MINT, Near-Mint, Excellent, Very Good, Good, Fair, Poor.
The condition of the jacket is VERY GOOD. There is discoloration, visible ringwear, and light edgewear. However, there are no bends, owners' markings, seamsplits, or other defects, and the album remains solid and highly attractive – overall, a very good collector's copy.
The condition of the LP itself is VERY GOOD. The VG rating owes mostly to the fact that the LP is afflicted by a slight warp, though this does not affect play. In terms of sound, although surfaces are not silent, playback remains enjoyable. However, if you must have a flawless or NM copy, then please do not buy this LP. Overall, rates as a very good collector's copy.

This LP has been carefully cleaned using a VPI cleaning machine. All LPs are provided with a new Nagaoka (or Nagaoka-style) inner sleeve.
