QUEEN - JAZZ Black Border Picture Disc 1978

 Rare and very collectible-this is the genuine 1st issue original Jazz Picture disc with the Black border !  This was the first ever Queen picture disc made in 1978 in France by EMI-Pathe Marconi. 

1. Yes has the indent in the blue circular border on the left hand side. 

2. Yes it has a creamy white back sleeve rather than the coarse white of the bootlegs.

3. Matrices: Side A: M6325 533 6E-166A 61820 A1 RTB-10 STERLING

                 Side B: M6325 534 6E-166B 61820 B1 RTB-10 STERLING

*** Remember that the Album Jazz was produced by Roy Thomas Baker hence the RTB in the matrices. It was mixed by George Marino at STERLING SOUND in New York hence all legitimate copies of Jazz have STERLING in the matrices as the mothers/Laquers (pressing plates) were cut at Sterling Sound. Again 6E-166 is the US Elektra catalogue number which appears as the Jazz picture disc was pressed using mothers cuts at Sterling Sound who would have been contracted and paid by Queen's US record company ELEKTRA Records to do the final mix. All genuine Jazz picture discs carry 6E-166 in the matrices ! 

Lastly : M6325 533/M6325 534  and 61820 are the identifying matrices that the French pressing plant would have added to the lacquers they received from Sterling and used to make the JAZZ picture disc. If you have the Night at the Opera French white vinyl or the News of the World Green vinyl or any French pressed EMI album (Beatles etc) you will see a similar number in the Matrices. 

It is possible that the Jazz Picture disc was a contract pressing ! This means that the US Elektra label commissioned the French (EMI- Pathe Marconi) to press this picture disc for the US market. Picture discs were a European speciality at the time i.e. the Beatles SGT Peppers Pic disc from 1977/78 was pressed in Germany. Contract pressings were commissioned because the US pressing plants which were flat out pressing normal vinyl editions from so many other artists. So rather than halt the mass production it was easier to contract out a special product to another pressing plant. This happened a lot in the 70's with many Beatles LP's being pressed in France and put in English sleeves. This also happened in Australia where New Zealand pressed Beatles LP's were sold in Australian sleeves to the Australian market. 

I've been a Queen collector and more importantly a Queen fan for nearly 25 years and every single GENUINE black border Jazz picture disc I have bought has come out of the USA ! So it is possible the Black border picture disc was pressed for the US market as Queen's popularity was soaring there at the time, a tour looming and Queen were winning America ! Maybe as an after thought they pressed the white border (black riders) Jazz picture for the European market ??

Condition:

Disc: EX- (Very fine scratches from thick plastic sleeve/ Scuff mark to the right of John's elbow on the B-Side)

Sleeve: G+ ~ VG-  (Showing clear signs of age and wear but still ok- has creases + 2" split to the top seam + wear to the spine + has been touched up with black marker).

Standard airmail (7-10 working days) included in the price. This is 1st class airmail and does not provide any sort of tracking service. Insurance for loss or damage is included but claims for loss or damage can only be made through NZ Post.  Therefore if the above happens it will require your co-operation as NZ Post investigates such claims and does not compensate lightly without doing there homework.

If you would like a tracked courier service it would be an additional £12 on top of the final price!

South American/Italian/ East European/China :+£12  for a tracked registered service- I will not ship to you by standard airmail due to long delays and claims from buyers!  Please be prepared for long delays of up to 1-2 months for your item. This is to do with the postal service at your end not mine. I have had difficulties with clients in the above areas asking where there item is after 2 weeks. Well it is usually sitting in a depot/warehouse in your country until customs or some bureaucrat processes it. I don’t mean to cause any offence but please understand the only way around this is for you to pay for a courier service which has tracking details and is fast 5-10-days.
