Description
For sale is Queen's Jazz, originally released in 1978 by Elektra Records in a gate-fold presentation with a limited edition poster. In the dead wax between the labels and the last tracks are etched the matrix numbers A-1/B-1, followed by "SP" and "Sterling". These etchings indicate that it was mastered at Sterling Sound, N.Y.C. and a first stamper was used to press this record at the Specialty Records pressing plant at Olyphant, PA. These are hallmarks of state-of-the art engineering, sought after by collectors and music lovers for their superior sound quality. I bought this used, professionally cleaned it on my VPI HW-17 and immediately put it in a MFSL archival inner sleeve. This protects the vinyl and any original inner sleeve(s) or insert(s) that may have come with the release. The inner sleeve is Excellent with a saw-cut notch and some wrinkles. The poster has the same saw-cut notch, but is otherwise graded as Excellent. The cover is graded as VG+ because of ring wear, corner blunts and a saw cut on the bottom right hand corner. The spine has a little color loss at each corner from rubs and in the middle from stress cracks. The vinyl is visually graded as VG+ because of some faint sleeve marks and surface scratches. I'm play grading it as VG+ because of occasional low level surface noise, most noticeable during the quiet sections. This is the best copy of this very rare record that I have ever seen or heard and you would be hard pressed to find one in this condition, especially a Sterling first edition with all the original inserts. This would be a welcome addition to any collection. I have more Rock and Roll records, as well as albums of all different genres in my Ebay store. Please take a look. They're mostly Near Mint. I've been collecting records for about 50 years now and have always cleaned them and put them away carefully in plastic inner sleeves. Over the years I've used Dust Bugs, Disc Washers and have finally invested in a professional VPI record cleaning machine. Now that I'm retiring, I'm selling my very esoteric collection. I'm not a professional grader of records, but will use record guides, as well as my personal experiences as a basis of my grading all records. Since grading is subjective, I will be conservative.
