Description
QUEEN - "Queen Rocks" - Limited edition (LP vinyl) 1997
QUEEN ROCKS was released internationally on 3rd November 1997, and for the first time compiles 18 single and album tracks together from the bands 27 year career. The album entered the UK charts at No.7 on 9th November and then fell to No.10 the following week, but reaching No.1 in all the national rock charts. Released on CD, cassette and a double heavy vinyl LP set with a gatefold cover and inner sleeves, the cover artwork was by Damien Rochford and shows (another) Queen crest, this time exploding, and visually summing up the whole feel of the album. A couple of weeks after the album had reached gold award status, a new cover was issued for all formats featuring a picture of just the phoenix flying away from the flames. The album would reach platinum award status in the UK before the album was eventually withdrawn from catalogue, and going top 20 in other European territories. A specially made TV advert was filmed to promote the album on TV, and many radio and TV appearances by Brian and Roger were given in the UK and all across Europe. The Rocks album was promoted as 'The Ultimate Rock Album From The Masters Of Rock', and features the first new song in six years without Freddie or a guest singer. No One But You (Only The Good Die Young), a ballad, was written by Brian for his forthcoming solo album as a tribute to Freddie and to all those that had died too soon, but felt that it deserved the Queen treatment. Roger also agreed it was an important song and must be done as Queen, and with John on board it is the first and only recording to be released after Freddie's death with just the three remaining members of Queen on a track.price rating
