Description
I am working through the music collection of my late brother who was a huge Queen fan.
Amongst the vinyl was this boxed set.
All in all it is a real strange lot in terms of condition and contents and is priced accordingly, so please read on
SLEEVES/VINYL
There are 14 albums numbered I to XIV in white embossed carboard sleeves which are all in excellent condition with barely a mark.
The records are stored within paper sleeves within the album sleeves, and these are in good condition with the odd corner fold from when the albums have been removed from the inner cardboard sleeve
The albums themsleves appear to be in overall VG condition, some have signs of being played but there are only a few minor scratches and handling marks. Some may even have never been played. I haven't tried to clean these out.
Here's the odd thing. When assessing the condition by checking every record I found that Hot Space was in the sleeve for Queen 2.
But the Hot Space sleeve (XII) already had a copy of the Hot Space album in it! Every other sleeve has a corresponding album.
It's possible that it is a mispressing (can anyone advise? ) and one of the two discs is actually Queen 2, but then again it could be that Queen 2 is missing, and there are 2 copies of Hot Space. Unfortunatley, I do not have a record player, so really cannot tell, although the layout of the tracks on both sides of each copy appear to be the same.
I cannot explain this, but be aware that you may be bidding on 13 albums plus a duplicate. It may be possible to buy the other album from another source, or you might have a rarity.
INSERTS There are three inserts - the colour covers book, the tour map, and the tour inventory/itenary. The booklet shows signs of handling with a few indents, and the staples in the centre have some rust marks -good overall perhaps. The spine cover is slightly torn on one of the staples. This perhaps sounds worse than it is.
The tour map and inventory are in good condition overall, the guide again having some slight staple rust.at the centre. i was tempted to remove these and renew them but left as they were.
PRESENTATION BOX
The box is complete and sturdy, with some indents on the front as if it has had items stacked on it in the past. There is also a slight scuff on the rear. The box inner has a couple of what might be water or damp stains, and some sign of slight mould in the very corners. There is no bubbling of the cardboard or fraying etc as would be expected if it had been soaked, so maybe it was in and around damp at some point, but this has not in anyway affected anything else. It ihas a slightly musty, aroma but I feel sure this will pass if allowed to air naturally for a time (I collect football memorabilia/papers so have some experience of this). The box is numbered 0280 on the underside of the lid. The rest of the contents 'smell' fine, sofar as I can tell.
So there it is, Make of it what you will, as I cannot understand why the set is as it is. It may be a bargain, some sellers are offering the 'missing' album, or might be worth splitting up and selling individually. It is priced to sell, certainly compared with other copies on ebay.
I hope the above description helps. I have also decided to offer free postage given the size and weiight of the item.
