Hello and welcome to this auction.

I play grade all my records, and this one was previewed on my Victor Granada Orthophonic player using those great needles from ebayer cyber_tigger.

In General, I don't date records or machines by the patent dates.  That only tells you when the process was patented.  The record or machine could be made decades later.  I use label designs to date records according to the Les Docks reference book.  This record is from the late 1920s.

I ship all my records in paper sleeves and offer generous discounts on combined shipping of multiple purchases, so check out my other listings and my store items.  More records being listed in the next few days.

This Auction:

This is a "Race Record" indicating it featured Black African American performers.  In this case, it's the Pace Jubilee Singers performing "Steal Away, and Pray" and "There's Room Enough In Heaven For Us All (Don't Stay Away)."  Spiritual, Gospel.

It's on a good looking New Electrobeam Gennett record, number 6072.  The recording sounds weak, like a lone microphone in a church.  Sounds like possibly Southern Baptist but not sure.  The quality of the recording is VG-/G+ (average for a used record) but both labels look VG.  Nice collectable.

Thank you for looking! And if you have any questions just let me know. My policies are all spelled out below, so read them first before you ask questions. Almost all questions are answered in my policy statements. PLEASE NOTE: CANADIAN BUYERS should check with me for a quote on shipping costs before bidding, especially heavy items. I DO NOT SHIP OUTSIDE NORTH AMERICA unless it's to American Armed Forces overseas. SEE DETAILS BELOW and contact me for details before bidding. YOUR FEEDBACK SCORE: If you do not have at least 5 positive points with at least a 90% feedback score CONTACT me BEFORE BIDDING. If you do not comply, I reserve the right to cancel your bid. Also, if I see you have an unusually high number of bid retractions I may cancel your bids and block you from bidding on my future auctions. It's not fair to serious bidders if you just play games with sellers here on ebay. IN BRIEF: Customer Satisfaction is Important to me--Shipping Options Available--Multiple Purchases Can Be Combined for Shipping Discounts. 78rpm RECORDS OFFER: I will copy your record purchase onto a CD to be included with your record. The cost is $1.00 per song. This applies only to 78rpm and other recordings made before 1959. Payment Back to Top
I accept the following forms of payment:
  • PayPal

Shipping & Handling Back to Top $4.00 USPS Media Mail®

Policies PAYMENT & CONTACT Back to Top If you don't know how much to pay after winning an auction please wait for my invoice detailing the costs or contact me. Combined shipment of multiple purchases will save you money so wait for my invoice if you have more than one purchase or are outside the United States & it's Territories. Payment is expected within 10 days. If you cannot pay within that time you must contact me for options. If you don't pay in that time and don't contact me, I will file a "non-payment" complaint against you and ban you from further auctions. If you don't have a paypal account, or want other payment options, just contact me. READ: It is your responsibility to be reachable by email through the address listed on Ebay. If you have a SPAM FILTER that blocks my notices, or I find your system won't accept emails because you changed it, I reserve the right to cancel the sale and move on. REGARDING FEEDBACK, if you are unhappy please contact me before entering negative or neutral feedback. I have a return/refund policy so ask if you have any questions.

SHIPPING AND HANDLING Back to Top I DO NOT SHIP OUTSIDE NORTH AMERICA. I will COMBINE PURCHASES for a cost savings on shipping to buyers in North America. I do this AUTOMATICALLY if you win more than one auction by the time I send an invoice. Feel free to contact me for quotes. If you plan to bid on a later auction let me know and I can hold the invoice until that auction ends. The most common multiple purchases are vinyl or 78rpm records. I charge just 50 cents for every single record disc after the first purchase (except for Edison Discs--it's $1.00 more for them). Example: Shipping and handling for one purchase may be $4.00, add one record it's $4.50, add two records it's $5.00 and so forth. That's in addition to the purchase price of course. Media mail is the most common method for records and books. But, any purchase can be sent Priority or other delivery methods. Just ask for a quote. Some heavier record lots may indicate Parcel Post shipping but if it qualifies, and I can send it Media Mail for less, I will. For some record lots I may be able to use USPS Flat Rate Priority boxes, so check with me for details. CANADIAN BUYERS READ: The USPS now allows only Airmail delivery to destinations outside the U.S., no surface mail. Check with me for details and rates before bidding. Shipments to Canada would be by First Class International if the item is under four pounds, or Priority Airmail if it is heavier. I am happy to ship to my brothers and sisters in the military through the APO or other military mailing systems, or items can be shipped to your stateside address. Again, contact me for details.

RETURN/REFUND POLICY Back to Top If you have a problem with any items you receive from me, please contact me for a resolution. I'll always work with reasonable people for a satisfactory resolution. Sorry, but I don't take returns. There is a current problem on ebay of people buying items and then returning substituted, broken, or inferior duplicates in place of the ones they bought. I'm hearing more and more stories about this all the time from other sellers. So, please contact me if you are unhappy about your purchase. I'll work with you. But, keep in mind that AS-IS items are just that, no guarantee so I tend to price them low.

RECORD GRADING & RECORDING Back to Top RECORD GRADING: For VINYL albums I grade mostly by sight, but play grade most 45s and 78s. I use Jerry Osborne's grading system shown in his "Official Price" Guides. "MINT: Must be absolutely perfect and unplayed. VERY GOOD: A minimum of visual or audible imperfections, which should not detract much from your enjoyment of owning them. GOOD: The item is good enough to fill a gap in your collection until a better copy becomes available. It will show definite signs of wear and tear, but records in good condition should play all the way through without skipping." Grades of "+" or "-" fall in between these categories. A grade of VG- or G+ indicate it's somewhere in between the two levels. A grade of G+ would indicate it is decent with a lot of surface noise, and a grade of VG- would mean enjoyable, noticeable surface noise, but not bad. GENERALLY, I use VG-/G+ to indicate an "average" sounding used record. For 78 RPM RECORD grading I use the same basic formula described above but I accept there will be more surface noise than with vinyl. In general, I judge two things: energy level of the recording and surface noise. Therefore, a VG Victrola record will have good energy, clear sound, yet surface noise acceptable for the format. The highest grade I give used 78rpm records is VG+ since there will always be surface noise even if it looks unplayed. A Victrola grade G would be enjoyable but have a lot of surface noise, low energy level, or partial distortion. NOTE: with ACOUSTIC 78s made before 1930, known as VICTROLA records, they can t be accurately judged by just looking at them. I often find some that look trashed, but when played on a Victrola they sound pretty good. That's why I try to play grade all of them. I use a Victor Granada Orthophonic player from 1926 with steel needles. To play grade later 78s made from 1930 to 1959 I use a 1960s three-speed turntable with a ceramic cartridge piped through a professional Gemini mixer and studio grade Alesis monitors. By the way, I found an excellent website for information on old wind up victrolas and records. It's Tim Gracyk's Phonographs and Old Records . ALSO, I now buy my steel needles from eBayer cyber_tigger. It's Walt Sommers, and he has the BEST needles I have ever used. Go by his guidelines on how to use them and you'll get the most out of your old windup machine.

FOREIGN SALES Back to Top I DO NOT SHIP OUTSIDE NORTH AMERICA. The one exception on foreign sales is dealing with AMERICANS serving our country overseas. Contact me and I will arrange for APO shipments or deliveries to your stateside address.
