Eurythmics:

Formed in London in 1980 by singer Annie Lennox and multi-instrumentalist Dave Stewart, Eurythmics became one of the most visually and sonically arresting duos of the synth-pop and new wave era. Emerging from the ashes of their previous power-pop band, The Tourists, the duo hit global superstardom with their 1983 sophomore masterpiece Sweet Dreams (Are Made of This), driven by the Title track's cold, driving analog synthesizer pulse. Lennox instantly became an MTV icon, challenging traditional gender norms with her piercing orange buzzcut, sharp tailored suits, and commanding, soul-stirring vocal range, while Stewart provided the clever, multi-layered electronic arrangements. Throughout the 1980s, the duo proved their incredible versatility by incorporating elements of rock, soul, and rhythm and blues into massive hits like "Here Comes the Rain Again," "Would I Lie to You?," and the feminist anthem "Sisters Are Doin' It for Themselves." Boasting over 75 million records sold and a legacy of fierce artistic independence, Eurythmics was formally inducted into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame in 2022.

The Fixx:

Formed in London in 1979 under the initial moniker The Portraits, The Fixx became one of the most innovative and cerebral bands of the new wave era, combining driving post-punk rhythms with atmospheric, socially conscious themes. Anchored by Cy Curnin's dramatic, expressive vocals, Rupert Greenall's lush synthesizer textures, and Jamie West-Oram's precise, jagged guitar work, the group crafted a sleek, sophisticated sound that found its greatest commercial success across the Atlantic on American rock radio. Their 1982 album Shuttered Room established their moody, tense aesthetic with hits like "Stand or Fall" and "Red Skies," but it was their 1983 multi-platinum follow-up, Reach the Beach, that cemented their place in arena rock history, yielding ubiquitous MTV staples like "One Thing Leads to Another" and "Saved by Zero." Celebrated for tackling deep topics like political paranoia, environmental anxiety, and human isolation while keeping a tight, danceable groove, the band's classic lineup has remained remarkably intact, continuing to record new music and tour for dedicated audiences decades later.
