Posting to Russia: Yes, I do post to Russia. But delivery can take up to 4 to 6 weeks from the UK. So please be patient. I will submit a tracking number to the winning bidder, and when the packet arrives there it can be followed online using the Russian post website.

Brief Info: The fourth Ralph McTell album, and still with no chart success. This one issued on the scarce EMI subsidary label Famous G+W. Another impressive set from this English folk singer-songwriter, here backed by a host of quality musicians that include Rick Wakeman and Danny Thompson from Pentangle. Originals came with a heavily textured front and back gatefold cover that is very prone to wear and seldom seen without hardly any. This one on offer is superb and the one owner from new cover-protected it, the different immediately apparent as-seen. The record hardly played and offering practically as-issued sound. This copy also includes a Ralph McTell song music book that includes sheet music and graphics for 20 of his finest songs to this date, including ‘Streets of London’. As can be seen, this book has the same cover graphic as this album, so a really nice bonus piece to accompany it.

Cover Grade and Format: EXCELLENT(++): a matt gatefold format with the outside faces heavily textured with a very distinctive quite deep pattern. The inside faces are smooth. Printed and made in England by Garrod & Lofthouse, includes the polylined white inner sleeve. The 50-page sheet music (and some graphics) book is a bonus item.

Cover Front & Back: This has deep distinctive lined texturing that runs horizontally across both outside surfaces, and looking in amazing condition. This one is rarely ever seen without often heavy rubbing of the raised surfaces which totally ruins the superb portrait of the artist. Apart from fine rub traces on the bottom edge folds, this has hardly any at all and looks fantastic. Only the most carefully handled and stored examples have any chance of surviving like this. It remains ultra fresh, clean and totally unaged, the only fine crease is on the back left bottom corner and registers little. The graphic looks stunning with rich deep colour with no fading. Not even a trace of ring wear and even any rim impression on the back negligible. This is so impressive, it could prove a major upgrade for fans and collectors.

Cover Inner Gatefold: Just that one fine corner crease apart, it looks practically as-made.

Top Edges: Both straight and flush with barely any wear and no fading.

Bottom Edges: Gentle hints of card panel end thickening with any rubbing little and light. Fragile storage edges like these will seldom be seen much better. Both again straight and neat.

Right Edge(s), and Type: Soft card, but any thickening patch and light. The front has opened and I decided to let it remain that way, any adhesive application to close it can often result in curling of the card and as this is so neat and flat, it is simply best left as is. Record would normally be stored on the back edge, all are guaranteed untrimmed or enhanced.

Spine and Text: Solid, straight with minimal compression and folded square, so the edges meet up very closely together and parallel. No text printed on this, the graphic flow around and has no rubbing of any note as-seen.

Corners: Any tip rubs of creasing small and light, excellent shape mostly retained.

Cover Summary: A very strong all-round example of this very fragile and uncompromising early 1970’s cover, one that will prove very difficult to find better. This beautiful item should please many, if not most collectors.

The Inner Sleeve: EXCELLENT(+): a white polylined inner with two immaculate window circles and minimal creasing, the lining fresh and incredibly clear. Any age discolouration mild and fairly light, all edges unsplit with no repairs. This has the dual Patent Nos 1125555 & 1072844

The Book: EXCELLENT: at least. A 50-page song music book with some pictures. No part of the album per se, but nice to own as it complements the album with the same graphic used on the cover. All pages intact with the two original staples. There is little to fault on this splendid bonus piece.

Vinyl Condition/Visual Grading: NEAR MINT: a very impressive visual copy that is very clean with equally fine shine and quite heavily pressed. A copy with minimal plays on all the evidence with any surface traces minuscule. Visually a super record that should please most collectors.

Album Played For Grading: Yes. [I play ALL records I offer before submitting to Ebay, also the record is played in its entirety unless clearly stated otherwise. I do NOT play snippets or joining grooves to check for sound quality and quietness – I play from the beginning to end via clinically revealing equipment, all listed further down.]

Sound Quality and Audio Grading: This quality 1971 album plays up to it’s high visual grading with hardly anything to fault. Offering strong, distortion-free sound, all frequencies are sharp and clear – sound quality is high with a wide dynamic range and very detailed sound. Any surface sounds are minimal indeed and this is an exceptional clean pressing with no tracking issues*. Few available copies will outperform this original pressing I feel sure. Both channels are clean and sharp, I am certain this record has been played very lightly and has been very well stored and carefully handled, almost certainly in a non-smoking environment. Nothing spoilt my pleasure when play-grading this lovely record. It will prove very difficult to find significantly better and can be strongly recommended.

* As played-graded on a high-end Linn LP12 Sondek turntable with Ittok Mk II arm and Ortofon Quintet Black moving coil cartridge tracking at 2.2 grams. Records are a ‘contact’ format, and few will avoid the odd minor sound blemish.

The record’s cover will be placed within a BRAND NEW soft protective sleeve and the actual record will be professionally cleaned on my new VPI-17 Pro vacuum system to give ultimate clean grooves and playing surfaces and the best possible looks and ultimate sound quality. You will NOT get tired, dull looking, dust infested records inside worn and foggy covers with tatty inners from this seller and that’s a promise and guarantee. All records are posted in professional boxes (NOT Mailers, these do not offer any real protection). SOME GENERAL GUIDES TO WEAR AND CONDITIONS TO HELP YOU DECIDE

My Use of Description Terminology: Surface Marks = Superficial, usually light marks, hairlines or light scuffs that rarely sound. Scratch = a needle mark that goes below the record’s surface, some will sound, some will not, my play-grade will inform. Original = a record that has been pressed with the first label design which does NOT necessarily mean a very first pressed record. First Pressing = A record that I believe or know to be a genuine very first pressed record. I do not claim to always know for sure, and that’s why I state the stamper and matrix numbers if at all possible, for those who claim to know what they all mean, the information is there for the collector to decide. I prefer to use terms like ‘Early Copy’ rather than ‘First Pressing’ if I am not totally sure. Surface Sound = Mild, light sound, usually light crackle or similar. Distortion = Break up of the actual sound caused by groove wear or damage from a chipped stylus – the most undesirable form of unwanted sound, vintage mono records were the most prone to this happening but not exclusively so. The symptoms of distortion are high frequency clipping, moderate constant crackle or an echo type sound quality. Violin, piano and vocals are most prone to groove-wear distortion. Feathering = Fraying or softening of the entry edge of a cover. Covers with feathered entrance edges are more likely to have had the actual record inserted and removed more than a non-feathered, sharp-edged cover which are always far more attractive. Set Off, actually a printer’s term for dark ink leaving mild residue on pale or white ink when rested upon. e.g. when a gatefold cover has black ink closed against white, this can leave some black residue on the pale area – this is mostly unavoidable or course.

The Argument for Vinyl Original sound and mix (mono mixes are rarely available on CD), high quality sound on clean copies (played on a hi-end dedicated analogue system – breathtaking sound!), beautiful, large format covers, artwork, inserts and even full size posters etc; huge investment potential, and the pleasure of owning ‘the real thing’.
